Sad news.
Time for Marshall to make his mark again.

I'm not too worried about Marshall plahying against Preston but I'm concerned about the Boro game. Expect Wheater to give him problems with crosses in the area.

Yeah, I agree. I prefer Marshall out of the two but Heaton was doing ok. I felt due to his lack of height and Marshall's better shot stopping, Heaton has let in a couple that Marshall wouldn't have. Saying that, Heaton has kept a couple out that Marshall wouldn't have!
It's the best position to suffer an injury in my opinion so not too worried. They're both about the same level.

No great shakes in my opinion
Both keepers are as bad as each other

Sad for Heaton!! good for Marshall!! One thing we have 2 very good keepers so the competition between the two is excellent. So David do your stuff it in now your moment.

Big shame - he's been in decent form lately!
really nice guy as well - gutted for him!
At least we have an International goalkeeper to come in for him!
Wed Dec 01, 2010 6:37 pm
can't even get an emergency loan in for cover can we? the loan window is closed
Wed Dec 01, 2010 6:54 pm
luckily i feel we have 2 very good keepers at this level, who are equally as good as each other

That sounds like something a remedial school teacher would say in assembly ahead of a sports day!

sorry for Tom .....but glad to see Marshall back in, he's a better shot stopper.....

I think it makes little difference, I'm happy with both our keepers. Heaton deserved his place but will now have a fight to get his place back in a month.

Shame for him but i would prefer Marshall out of the two given the choice anyway

I find it wierd that Marshall is poorer with crosses despite being about 3 inches taller, yet a better shot stopper.
Hopefully he's been working on his communication and decision making with ariel balls and will come back better.

Who will be on the bench Saturday?

Heaton has also made some class saves this season as well and a superb one in the second half on Saturday, to stop Jamie Mackie's shot!
I'm wondering whether most David Marshall admirers on here, are judging him on his penalty saves in the Play Off Semi against Leicester, as his general play is quite poor!
Yes, I also think he's a good shot stopper, but he flaps at crosses, (have we all forgotten the second goal at Wembley so soon?) and he doesn't command his 6 yard box, let alone the 18 yard box, which is why he and Gerrard had a couple of fallings out last season, most notably at Nottingham Forest!
Hopefully, he'll have learned from watching Heaton shouting and communicating with his back four and won't be afraid to come out and cover behind his defenders, which Heaton is superb at!

agree with that. But feel that maybe Marshall might have stopped one or 2 that Heaton missed, like the Jacks one, with his longer reach, and speed of getting down (Heaton's 'weakness' IMHO is he's a little slow to get down at times), I also remember him putting on an awesome shot stopping display at Arsenal. sometimes heaton's kicking is a bit poor.
Could do with a clone of the 2 ! niether are mugs, but neither is the finished article either. Fortunately they are both young and have time to improve - I wouldnt say a keeper is at his best until hes 30.
Thu Dec 02, 2010 11:24 am
I agree with your comments Lawnmower, but think that Heaton is closer to the finished article than Marshall is!
You're definitely right about Heaton's kicking, as it was very poor when he was with us 2 years ago, but I thought that he has improved beyond recognition, until I saw him at Loftus Road on Saturday!
Hopefully he'll come back an even more improved player, once he gets over his current injury!

Unless Marshall is a complete fuckwit, he will know why he's out of
the team. Commanding your area and confidence with crosses is
something a keeper can work on. Hopefully he has. I dont think
we'll have a problem
