4 - 5 - 1

Sat Nov 27, 2010 8:41 am

QPR today and it seems we may play 4 5 1.

There's been quite a bit of stick for DJ in the way he's lined us up for some recent games (and I've dished some of it out)
It's always easy after the match to comment on what we should have done, so for a bit of fun should we change to 4 5 1 today?

Regardless of formation what's bothered me most over last couple of home performances is that we don't seem to have played to our attacking strengths.
I don't think we should play 4 5 1 today because Jay up front alone would be a waste.

So i'm going for 4 4 2 and let's take the game to them.

I think 4-5-1, especially with Bellamy and Burke out wide, will work a treat. Oli, Drinkwater and Whittingham will need to do the business in the middle but I think provided Oli keeps tabs on Taarabt then we can dominate.

Personally I think we should always adopt this kind of formation when playing away from home. It gives us variety in the middle (Olofinjana's breaking-up of play, Drinkwater's energy, and Whittingham's creativity. Add to that the pace, skill and trickery of Bellamy and Burke on either flank, with Jay up front on his own as a complete forward if you like, and we are the complete package !

4-5-1?

We should play it home and away!!

it is NOT a defensive formation when played with a bit of
inventiveness. The Spanish happily leave one man up there.
They pack the midfield with the sole intent of getting the
ball back ASAP.. then hitting hard on the break with sharp
incisive passing. we have the players to do this. You end up
being stronger at the back by default, because you have a
line of 5 in front of your defenders

At least today we know that the oppo will be attacking which with this system and pace allows us to counter. I reckon 1-2 to cardiff bellers to crash a blinder in :ayatollah:

I would say it could be more of a 4-3-3 formation.

Fair enough, attacking 4 5 1. I'd go for that.

Peter Ridsdale promised me the job just before he got the boot.
All he wanted was a £1000 deposit for his 'consultancy fee'... I
obviously jumped at the chance. Not heard from him since :( :(
