From re-listening to the Rob Phillips CCFC update from CCS on Radio Wales news (I recorded it on my laptop), Phillips clearly confirms the following as stated to him by Peter Ridsdale in a discussion following the issue of the statement to the press:
- That HMRC will be paid in the next 10 days from "usual sources of income for the club, plus new investment"
- That he had £3m coming in in January from "usual streams of income plus this investment"
- That he stressed "there is no threat to the club's future"
- That he confirmed that CCFC will pay the tax bill and will bring in new players
- That he has enough revenue to pay the tax bill without touching the fans money raised as part of the season ticket offer.
- However, that he will not add to the liability/liabilities until the tax bill is paid.
- Rob Phillips went on to say that "In other words he (PR) is confident that 3 players will be in before the end of January, possibly 4, but that won't start to happen until this tax bill has been paid and the winding up order is set aside and he (PR) expects that to be done within 10 days".
So, in effect official embargo or not. We are not signing anyone until at least the 18th Jan......or when the HMRC bill is finally paid and the liability removed.
I can only assume that delaying in bringing in new players (the sooner they are in surely the better?) is because there is some serious 'negotiating' taking place (with the Malaysians holding all the cards to maybe get the club at the 11th hour for a price they are prepared to pay). And, that signing players/bolstering the squad at the end of the transfer window is a fair trade for the discount they'll get on the purchase price by taking the current board to the brink.
Otherwise, if it was 'all friends together' the board would surely pay HMRC today (from their own resources, as they'll get it back in 10 days time) in order to clear the liability and get the extra 3 or 4 games worth of points/cup £ opportunity out of the newly enlarged and stronger sqaud?

If you buy someone on the 26th, they can't play on the 26th.......
