Forest boss Davies sings Jones' praises as he attempts to plot Cardiff's downfall

BILLY Davies today admitted he admires Dave Jones for the work he has done to transform Cardiff City into one of the Championship's promotion favourites.

The Nottingham Forest manager insists he has no complaints about the way the cash-strapped Welsh side have managed to bring in high-profile players such as Craig Bellamy and Jason Koumas on loan, without paying their wages in full.

Instead, the Scot insists he respects the work Jones has done to add to his squad, leading to Cardiff topping the table ahead of tomorrow's game.

"I have great respect for Dave Jones and what he has done at Cardiff," said Davies. "They have built on last season's efforts with the quality they have brought in.

"That is why their goals-for column is a lot higher than other sides.

"They have great strength from middle to front. They knew that, to improve their stats, they had to improve their quality.

"You have to admire the way he has moved the club forwards and the support he has been given, in terms of the bodies they have brought in.

"He knew they needed an injection of quality; that they needed to bring a certain type of player in, in different areas.

"That is how you improve things. You bring in fresh players.

"You do not need a rocket scientist to see why they score so many goals, just look at the players they have got."

Davies is looking forward to the challenge, however.

"It is another great game for us," he said. "This is a game that we want to be involved in.

"This is the kind of marking card that you want, this is the quality you want to face.

"The players should be looking forward to it. It is a great game of football for us.

"You look at the quality of the strikers and there is no doubt that they have very good players.

"What they have done now is bring in five or six real quality players in other areas.

"They are there or there abouts when it comes to having the best squad in the division.

"Middle to front, they are certainly one of the best. They will expect to be there or there abouts.

"And I could see them adding again in January and pushing on again."

It's what he leaves out that is the most important thing, deliberately not mentioning the defence. He's well aware of it's deficiencies and has plans.

Exactly what I was thinking.... but as we all know - we have conceeded and come from behind on a more regular basis now - and we still win games.... personally IMO only a truly awful display from Cardiff can help Forest to some points.

These are the games we have to brush aside if we are to be automatic promo. favourites.....

It's more a pop at his own board than anything else he's been moaning constantly about not being able to bring players in. I expect him to walk before the end of the season
