WORK HARDER and COULD BE FITTER " Thats JAY BOTHROYD according to Martin Keown in Todays Daily Mail.
Wrong Attitude and too Confident as well.
DO YOU AGREE WITH Matin Keown Comments ?
What I didnt know was Jay had only Scored 3 goals in 37 Premiership Appearances.
My Opinion, Jay, has changed his attitude for the better, could still work harder, as to Fitness ?
Over Confident, I dont think so.
Can he do it, He Deserves a Chance in My Opinion

my only problem with Jay is soemtimes he makes the wrong decision. Late tackle here and there, bit of back chat, silly bookings. Apart from that he has worked hard to improve his game over the past 3 seasons. I think everyone can see an improvement in his game and he has turned into a class striker. Some players develop later in life jagielks, lescott, kevin phillips etc.
He def deserves a chance.

Could work harder yes, but over confident? stupid comment. He is just really really happy to be called up to England.
He much improved from the time he was a premiership player to be fair. Martin Keown is making a assessment of pre-cardiff Bothroyd

City fans have always said he doesnt work hard but ive never agreed, I just dont see it at all, maybe im to blinkered as I rate him so highly.
Jay is a confident lad but I dont see that as a bad thing, infact I think its a big positive.
I think his attitude has been pretty good since joining us.
Maybe Martin Keown knows him from his arsenal days but I dont see how Keown can judge him now.
He fully deserves a chance in the prem next season and I hope its with us.

Jay has changed a hell of alot in the last 3 seasons. comparisons to his former self are now pointless. imo, he works hard as hell out there now, how often do you see him coming back defending.
Tue Nov 16, 2010 6:37 pm
How many players have moved up from the championship and failed in the prem, I think now Jay has got his head into the football he could be one that differs
Tue Nov 16, 2010 7:16 pm
Jay has steadily improved every season he has been with us, but this season he has taken off. If Chopra returned to his best also then my god it would be frightening what those two could do in front of goal
Tue Nov 16, 2010 7:36 pm
keown is judging jay on his past and on old hearsay i'd like to know how many times keown has watched city recently or championship football in general he's talking crap
Tue Nov 16, 2010 8:06 pm
How can a talentless tw*t like Keown criticise anyone let alone somebody as gifted as Jay. We are seeing a player realising his potential and deserves is shot at international level.
He works as hard as anyone and his fitness is not an issue. Best player I've seen in a City shirt. ( Can't include Bellamy. Still in shock that he's playing for us).

I think Keown is talking through his ass but talentless tw*t ? Hardly

it would have been nice at some stage over the last few days for jay to praise cardiff and its coaching staff for helping him turn around his career over the last 18 months but not a dicky bird from him.
On that basis im a bit dissapointed in him
Tue Nov 16, 2010 8:43 pm
I wonder when was the last time keown saw jay play live?
These football pundits should do some homework before spouting their crap in the paper.
Jay has his faults as has been pointed out on the board but he has improved so much since we signed him. The difference this year is that he has added goals to his game (to me, he's gone the step further like Whittingham last year)
if he can cut out the stupid bookings and on occasions, look up to bring others into play, then there is no reason why he can't get into future squads

I was expecting him to thank DJ for bringing the best out of him. No mention of that on the TV.

I think Keown is echoing the thoughts of many years of many people within the game, Jay has definitely had an attitude problem and it has shown through at most clubs he has been with but he has certainly grown up and we can all see he is working much harder this season, I just worry that whilst he has been thrown into the limelight it could build his ego up and possibly comments like Keowns maybe hard for him to take.
Tue Nov 16, 2010 9:14 pm
I read an interview some where where he did thank everyone, but that may have been quoted of his twitter page

Keown - great player. Not a very good pundit IMO. Yes Jay has changed hell of a lot from his Arsenal days, perhaps Keown will change his opinion after Wednesday night.

I don't think you can question Jays work rate this season because that is the one thing he has really added to his game. In past seasons you wouldn't see Jay doing much tracking back and he is also working much harder at getting in the box more and consequently the goals are flowing.
Personally i think the signing of Bellamy as had a massive effect on Jay as he as probably shown Jay exactly what you have to do to get to the top level

I agree, Bells has helped him improve his all round game and Def his attitude, but it also shows if he plays with better class players, it shows how good he is as well

Interesting, but I back Jay on this
Wed Nov 17, 2010 5:05 pm
Jay is not the same player as he was at Wolves, He's twice the player now! At Wolves he would play like hell for about 15/20 mins then he would go missing, Every one there said how good he could be, but he never really proved them right and didnt do alot for himself also. Now he is on fire and looks a more complete player ! I hope he stays on his feet more if he do play tonight .
Wed Nov 17, 2010 5:59 pm
I think his work rate could still improve. He's much better now but the amount of times he's just trudged back from an offside position and the ball comes over the top and he's still walking back where he could have been on the last man and chasing it down.
Saying that, sometimes his lack of effort has got him in prime positions! It's a tough one but right now he's been picked for England whilst playing in the Championship so I think criticism of any kind is harsh on him right now.

I agree Zabier, There is more to come, if he improves his Work Rate
