Putting something back into society ..

Mon Nov 15, 2010 1:39 pm

For a while now have been thinking of helping out with some sort of volunteer work ,working with the homeless etc or helping out in trying to advise not to follow the route of crime or drugs .Just wondering if there are any board members who do this at the moment ,and how to get started .Living in London you see everyday the divide between rich and poor getting bigger and much harder to succeed in life .This country has so much talent out there ,everyone makes mistakes and derserves a second chance I believe ......Any information would be sound ....

at the moment I am working on making a sunday league team to play in cardiff and also working on getting as much football qualifications as possible, and I am only 21, but its really hard setting up a new club as I am struggling to find a sponsor to give the club funding for our home and away kits,

so that will be the volunteering work that I will be doing to help the group of players I got who wants to enjoy playing together with friends and win matches

Depends on what area you are thinking to volunteer

I work through the YOT (youth offenders team) with the young offenders

As an Appropriate Adult within the Police Custody Suite

As a Befriender where you give some of your time every week/every other week depends on the Social Worker - and you are allocated a young person - you then take this young person away from their home environment and do "normal" things - This is rewarding because you see the child in them and happiness - even if its only for a few minutes/hours.

You need to initially decide what area (children/adults etc) and also if you will be needing a CRB check - get that sorted they take ages!!!! - you will have to pay unless the place you volunteer offer to cover the cost!

GOOD LUCK and hope you find something rewarding :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I would suggest trying local homeless shelters in central london to see if they need an extra pair of hands, that would be a great way to start and help someone live become a bit better, or possibly try ymca clubs or youth clubs in your area and you could get involved with the youngsters and possibly introduce some ideas you may have. :)

I think anything that gets kids or adults involved in sport or leisure is a worthwhile cause. The homeless are always in need of support and for you to become involved would be commendable. Have you contacted your local authority to see what schemes are in the area??

On a lighter note there is a small coastal town about 40 miles west of Cardiff where there are some pretty deprived people littering the streets around the Liberty Stadium every week or so....
