" JAY BOTHROYD UPDATE 13th NOV 2010 "

Sat Nov 13, 2010 4:58 pm

We are all aware of the importance of Jay Bothroyd to our team and it's success, we seen last season in the Play Off Final just how important he is too us. I am glad that Dave Jones didn't allow his emotions to get the better of him and didn't get rid of Jay after their fall out after Wembley.

I know that there was interest in Jay this summer from Birmingham and Blackpool but DJ had the backing of Vincent Tan to build a squad as he sees fit and DJ knew he had to keep hold of Jay to succeed.

As I reported last week Jay has told the club that he will not sign the contract offer made to him as Jay feels he is worth more than the current offer but I have been told this morning that Cardiff City are ready to meet with Jay and his agent again and offer a much improved contract but my worry is it could be too late.

At present Jay is on £7k per week and has been offered just an extra £1k per week but this offer will be much improved.

We all remember back in the summer when our manager and Chief Executive said that they were concentrating on bringing players in and they would deal with the current players new contracts once the transfer window closes, could this method cause City to miss out automatic promotion if Jay leaves in January.

At Scunthorpe today there are no less than a dozen scouts all there watching Jay Bothroyd, scouts from Stoke, West Brom, Birmingham, Newcastle and there are even 2 scouts sent from Man Utd.

I have just taken a call from a contact that the Newcastle scout is going back with a strong recommendation, I am sure that the other clubs will be doing the same. For Man Utd to send scouts to watch you goes to show what kind of player we have at our club, this makes the decision not to have already signed him up all the more strange.

Credit must go to DJ and his staff though as everyone in the game knew that Jay had the talent but nobody up until DJ could get the best out of him, this season has been Jay's most prolific and he has been called up to the England Preliminary squad for the friendly against France on Wednesday.

With all the interest in Jay I can't see how we will keep hold of him but hopefully the offer from City will be big enough and have enough incentives in it that we may just pull it off.

The England final 23 :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Either way Carl we have to keep him until the end of the season. If we dont go up then he can move on with all our thanks. If we Do go up then he can move on if he gets a better offer with even more of our thanks and will be a CCFC legend forever in my eyes.

If Man Utd come in how can you stop him Tim but I do know that Jay does like the lights of London

thing is though not bringing in sooner could also have cost us a auto place?
I think think the club got that right and even if they had done it in the summer it doesnt mean he would have signed.

thanks Carl - perhaps the Man U scouts were there for Matthews  or a few other players , such as Bellamy , Chopra or even Heaton, as a replacement for van Der Sar ,afterall , we are top of the league and due to the overpriced foreign imports with attutude the standard of the Championship has been raised and PL clubs realise they get better value for money for players in our division .

Re: JAY BOTHROYD UPDATE

We sell him at xmas and get £10 million ?

We give him away in May and get £0 ?......but we get promoted and get £50 million ??

Have I got this right ?

If so - we dont sell him.

I'd doubt they were looking at Bellamy ( man City won't sell to rivals... ) or heaton ( who left Man U in summer... )

Re: JAY BOTHROYD UPDATE

Sat Nov 13, 2010 5:11 pm

Cheers Carl in all honesty I can't see Jay moving if we are in a strong position come January as the teams you mentioned there are all even further away from his family in London especially Newcastle would his wife like to move that far if he goes it will be to a team closer to London IMO keep up the good :ayatollah: :ayatollah: work

Get rid of our reserve team manager, why do we need one, that will release some money within the budget to give to Jay. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

how do you know ? I dont know, none of us know - perhaps they were looking at Scunthorpes youngsters - nobody knows. At the end of the day like Jones says it shows how far we have come , as years ago we would have mirrored Scunthorpe.

Re: JAY BOTHROYD UPDATE

Sat Nov 13, 2010 5:27 pm

i just cant see him staying and anyone who thinks he may must be mad .....his agent will be rubbing his hands ..jy ha been banging the goals in has a call up to the england squad even being a championship player and he knows clubs are after him...i just cant see anyway now how he,ll stay...citymay give hm a good contract but the worst thing is now is is agnet ...he ,ll be doing all sorts to get a move .....if he goes lets just hope the city are looking to bring in a good striker...theres no doubt that come jan we will have plenty of players who will want to come to us .

Re: JAY BOTHROYD UPDATE

Sat Nov 13, 2010 5:29 pm

Why did we go in with such a low offer in the first place. Totally unprofessional.

How low down the players wage list would Jay have been on 8k a week?

Re: JAY BOTHROYD UPDATE

Sat Nov 13, 2010 5:30 pm

Thanks Carl, let's just hope he gets that contract signed.

BTW Carl, I sent you a PM earlier in the week.

Joff I have contacts at the game and they ( Man Utd ) are looking at Jay not Matthews ( who was on the bench ), not Bellamy ( who is on loan ) and not Heaton who they let go in June.

Re: JAY BOTHROYD UPDATE

Cheers Carl

We all know that if Jay goes then our chances of promotion go with him. Our whole team is built around him so dig deep in your pockets City and pay him what he deserves. Any extra wage cost will be more than made up if we go up. :old: :ayatollah:

Carl, I wasn't disagreeing with your post, I would prefer to wait and see what happens, unfortunately, with football there is so much speculation which doesn't always transpire into fact.

I am not disputing their were scouts at the game, of course there will be Bothroyd is on form, just named in a 30 man England squad and Cardiff are top of the league.

A few months back Man Utd scouts were in Pencoed looking at regional youth football tournaments.

My personal view is he will sign an improved contract with a caveat.

Man Utd.....

That did make me chuckle!

He stays with us regardless of what HE wants to do...we own his ass till the 1st July....

Let him get us promoted then if he wants to go he can....if we don't get promoted then let him go for a free and with our best wishes!! :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: JAY BOTHROYD UPDATE

So Man Utd want (scouting) Jay, when they have a similar style player in Berbatov (thats sounds crazy! but you know what i mean right)
I know Rooney's on a bad run right now, but is Jay REALLY the type of player they need? BIG BIG RISK for them if this is seriously what they are looking at!

Isnt the England squad being announced now! 6pm ? ;-)

Re: JAY BOTHROYD UPDATE

Sat Nov 13, 2010 6:04 pm

It's simple. Give him a decent contract, dig in mr tan and get us to the prem. As for Jay, I'm sure he ain't stupid and realises that it is dj that has got out of him what he is giving us. As so many other players before him... But we all follow the money!

Also, I dont think it would have made any difference if they'd offerred him a contract in the summer. He's said for a long time he wants to play in the prem and I cant see him signing unless we go up whether he'd been offerred it in July or now.

£7k a week.... i didnt realised he was on such a wage, no wonder he hasnt signed a new deal, if cardiff want to keep him come january then i think he will be seeking £20K plus a week.... oh i bet his agent is rubbing his hands together :ayatollah:

Shock to me as well. I for one don't want a repeat of the Toshack heartache of 40 years ago.

We keep him until the summer ... OK maybe he will do a Ledley and go for free but there is no way that any club with any ambition of getting to the premier would sell in Jan .Should we get to the prem maybe he will still go but we will be in a far stronger position.

I agree, we're under no pressure to sell him. If he leaves at the end of the season then he should leave with our best wishes, he doesn't owe us anything as his performances on the pitch have been brilliant over the last three seasons.

We would be shooting ourselves in the foot by selling him in Jan, any club that wants him in Jan should still want him in June so there's no reason for us to take a knock down fee and risk missing out on promotion and the millions of pounds is brings.

Jay is happy at Cardiff loves the area he just wants a contract that matches his importance to the team.

I think we are getting ahead of ourselves, do you really think that Jay is good enough for Man Utd. I would imagine they would set their sights a lot higher than Jay with all respect.

some big clubs like man utd will buy a player like jay then loan him out, as he develops as a player they will then call him back..... a big club like man utd could afford to do this with jay :ayatollah:

I also agree with both BB & asz.

Let’s get things into perspective the monetary loss on Jay will be £375k (not £10m) which is the amount we paid Wolves for him in 2008.

IMO over the course of his 3 year contract we have got very good value for money and we shouldn’t be too upset if exercises his contractual rights and walks away for nothing at the end of his contract.

By then hopefully we will be a premiership club and replacing him should be a lot easier.
