He would only really talk to immediate family members and it was little things that also alerted us to Aspergers. Like he never liked change he had a routine he didn't want to change anything, from the little things like when he got in the car it always has to be behind the passenger seat. He wouldn't sit anywhere else. After tests Aspergers was ruled out thankfully.
He was just turning 11 he had been on to me and the Wife that he wanted to start Karate,we both thought that wouldn't be for him but now and again he would mention it. So we looked into it and found a club in Bargoed and from the first time he done it he was hooked and even more surprising he was damned good at it. His confidence started to soar also his Sensei told me he would make a Champion out of him one day, for which i have never forgotten those words.
His Schooling started to slowly improve and bit by bit he exceeded the levels they put in front of him.
Roll on nearly two and a half years later he will be going for his Black belt next year and he is improving all the time. So far he has got to two National quarter finals in Competition and last night one of the Sensei's said to me how much Regan has improved and said he is a future Wales team member if he carries on the same way.
Sorry for boring you all with this but he really makes me proud and the fact he never gave up. And anyone else who has kids in a similar position there is a way out for children with difficulties you just need to find what can switch that light on.
Yes he is still shy yes he still likes his routines but as time goes by the confidence levels are still climbing.

Well done Regan. Fantastic achievement. Every child has a talent-it is a case of finding it and nuturing it.
My eldest lad has just been selected for trials for the Hampshire Junior PGA golf academy. Really proud of him. My middle boy has just started playing football and is loving it-he's not a bad player but already he has a great long throw-my mini leggy!
My daughter as yet to find a real talent-she has tried lots of things but not found anything that she excells at. She soon will i hope. Hopefully my baby son will find a talent that makes him happy.
