VANDALISM AT READING

Fri Nov 12, 2010 6:40 pm

I was up at Reading. It was a great game and a fantastic atmosphere from us. What a shame that a few have to spoil it by damaging seats and vandalising the bogs, leaving our club with a bill again, I suppose.

I've written an apology to Reading on behalf of the Trust and its members. A small gesture, I know. Some people seem to be starting a collection to send money to Reading to pay towards the damage but if it's Cardiff City who will be footing the bill, what's the point?

Maybe our club should add a £1 surcharge to every away ticket sold so that in the event of a problem like this, there are funds available. It might incentivise the decent ones among us to shop the vandals and maybe they even might think twice.

Opinions please?

Mike, They have been called Morons everything by certain people, but the Truth will be told in Carls next update, I think you will find it was say no more than 2 people out of 3,400 Cardiff fans and TOTALLY EXAGGERATED BY CERTAIN PEOPLE. There will be a proper update and the whole truth said, not just half a story, TOTALLY EXAGGERATED.
THe Police have praised Cardiff City fans for their Excellent Behaviour. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Rem the Woman and the Train. The same people Condemned them.

So lets get this right you want 3,500 fans ( Reading game ) to pay a £1 extra for a ticket so in case a couple of people play up we are covering it with the money of the vastly well behaved City fan.

Mike are you losing your marbles

your right you cannot charge every fan money for a just in case scenario and I think you will find out that it was very few seats damaged and that it was not intentional and wanton destruction.

Trouble with a surcharge is that the numbskulls who perpetrated these acts of sheer stupidity will only see it as an excuse to 'get their monies worth'

Unless these people are named and shamed (and even that would probably be seen as a medal) they will continue to do the same....or worse!!

I was at the Reading game and have to say I saw no trouble anywhere....so hopefully this was an isolated incident

definitely isolated, the club are surprised by the over reaction of a section of city fans, the police felt there was nothing to report.

putting things into perspective, its hardly worth bringing up is it. Reading FC have buildings insurance for this kind of thing as do all other clubs and this would be incorporated in the entrance fee.

its like Wetherspoons asking customers for a additional surcharge for smashed glasses etc.

I didnt see anything smashed.
DId spill some beer by the bottom of the stairs though. sorry.

I hope I did'nt damage the floor when I fell into the row in front of me head first, it certainly felt like it. I would like to thank the St Johns ambulance for patching me up. I do hope a few of you had a giggle at my expence. Will I ever learn 12 pints of cheap cider at 62 years of age screws you up a bit but also deadens the pain.

What about the toilets Carl ?

I can see that seats could be accidentally damaged - maybe not as many as 20, but a few, but what about the toilets ? If you read the thread started by TLG on Mike's board you'll see that I questioned it (the first and only one  ) and was given a list of damage to the toilets which is pretty awful.

At the end of the day with our history we cant even afford a handful causing trouble - and vandalism is the most cowardly of all.

Annis. This is the list of damage that was reported.

Reading's Stadium Manager attached ten photographs of the damage with his e-mail to our club officials. They showed:

Photo 1 - a kicked in waste trap
Photo 2 - a urinal cistern ripped from the wall
Photo 3 - a urinal cistern pulled out from the wall and the water pipe damaged
Photo 4 - another kicked in waste trap
Photo 5 - a third kicked in waste trap
Photo 6 - a kicked in soil pipe damaged at floor level
Photo 7 - a toilet roll dispenser pulled from wall
Photo 8 - another toilet roll dispenser pulled from wall
Photo 9 - a soap dispenser pulled from wall
Photo 10 - an anti-bacterial dispenser pulled from wall

I'm usually one of the ones who plays this down. But if this si what happened then its very stupid at best. As you say 3400 of us were there and we gave great support. By far the biggest trun out at Reading this year - Swansea took 2100 on a Saturday by way of comparison, but thanks to the acts of a few twats we are now looking like a load of cheap vandals.

Thats all after the Reading Trust praised our support and backed our calls for fairer treatment in the programme and the police up there were very good as well.

Personally I'm gutted as I had only posted that day that after Coventry away with NO police, probably the least arrests (per fan attending ) in the derby ever - and no repeat of the stand-offs on sloper or by the Ninian with the police, then 3500 travelling to Reading with no trouble we had turned the corner and could start justifying bigger allocations, less bubbles and fairer treatment. Then this. It may be fairly minor in the grand scheme of things, but we could well do without it.

3,500 fans there and a toilets get smashed and a few seats??

Reading will have made close to £100,000 from Cardiff City on Wednesday!!

Tim,

I also Know that Cardiff City followed this up and it turned out to be virtually Nil Damage, Which is great News.

Re: VANDALISM AT READING

Fri Nov 12, 2010 10:23 pm

Without wishing to sound sinister, Is there strong evidence to pinpoint that ALL of the damage was done by our supporters and not damage already done by previous clubs, as suggested via an attatchment from RFC

I note they have played Doncaster ( who lost 4-3 after being 3-1 up), Swansea, Crystal Palace ( where there ws serious disorder all day and are skint ) and Barnsley ( I saw them wreck Notts forests toilets a few years back) already this season.

Sometimes our fans are easy pickings.
