got to say love the new stadium but the grange was 1 hell of a buzz

Ninian was a big part of my life but we had to move on if renovation wasn't an option. The memories are with me forever but it was dilapidated and the ccs is a better viewing experience if lacking Ninians atmosphere. Do you think no standing areas is the reason? Most fans re-housed in new stadia claim a lack of noise and we are the same people from the old grounds who created that atmosphere there.
We miss Ninian because it was our ground from a young age. My kids will reminisce about the CCS and view it with rose tinted glasses.

The new stadium is ok.... but it'll never replace Ninian Park, i had so many experiences there both on the Grange and the Bob Bank.If we were to swap the ends the atmosphere would return and then it would feel like home.

Respects to Ninian Park, a treasure trove of history, culture & memories. The ghosts of the past will forever be there, but time moves on, & so it was the end of "full time" for Ninian Park [in fact, i think we got about ten minutes of extra time out of NP].
They say time heals, i like the new stadium, give it time & it will happen!
Tue Nov 09, 2010 6:10 pm
Give me NP any day, but time moves on, and football follows with it unfortunately.
The new place is one of the best I've been to in modern built arena's, and despite all this talk about atmosphere, it;s been shown that when everyone is up for it, the place is buzzing - so I think something has to be done about getting all the atmospheric folk together, and getting that side of things sorted out.

I do miss Ninian park however not for the atmosphere. As I only really went the last 3-4 seasons of Ninian Park I watched my first ever match there and went regularly in the mid 90's. The early stages of support for Cardiff happened there so that is the nostalgic part of it. For those years I associated CCFC with Ninian Park and have yet to feel at home in CCS however I know that will come towards the end of this season.
Ninian Park had the history of Cardiff City and had many great memories even for me such as Leeds, Watford, Swansea and as previously mentioned being the first stadium I went to. When I was younger I just used to love the smell of onions from burger vans and parking just across on Sloper Road. This is what I felt as a youngster at I will always associate this with Ninian Park.
I loved the terrace of Ninian and how everyone knew where they were and who was there with them. Family Stand and the Grange End with Block A providing the singing and the Bob Bank occasionally chipping in and was sort of the halfway house where you tended to watch the game and chip in with the odd song.
I am happy we moved into the New Stadium as basically, We needed to. It has superb facilities and is a much friendlier place to be which can only mean new fans to put Money into CCFC. However much we loved NP nobody can deny that it was a rusted piece of junk. And as the players and DJ have said it was a hell to play in for them. Footballers are wrapped up in a bubble and NP was an old ground that took them out of the bubble and maybe held them back, Hence why we have improved so much by going to the New Stadium.
As said, I am not at home entirely with CCS yet! However I know that after we hit the 2 year mark I will certainly feel at home in the Canton End. It is getting better with every game. The improvements I can think of is replacing the cladding with something a bit more classier.
I think people get tied in with this atmosphere illusion of NP. It was a great place that holds many memories for you I'm sure but I cannot remember it being significantly better than the one currently at CCS. It will take time as it has only been 16 months. Football has changed and Stadiums continue to change and they will continue to do so. Imagine our great great great Grandkids in 100 years being gutted that CCFC are moving from CCS

truth,i hate the new stadium,
i hate the lack of any atmosphere
i hate the facelessness of it
i hate the fact the familystand nolonger have the home team warming up at that end
and the strange thing is the people around me,it feels like il never get to know them, but this could be my fault
but i know we had to move on to be a premiership club.

I like CCS.
I also miss Ninian Pk too.
Ninian Pk was full of character, wooden seats in the Grandstand, the vast Bob bank, the floodlights etc but it had passed it's use by date.
I think the whole CCS crap atmosphere vs Ninian Pk thing is also a bit of a myth. Yes it can be a bit soulless and the absence of terraces undoubtedly contributes to all new stadiums being a bit quiet but NInian Pk could be a bloody desperate place to be too, particularly if we were getting gubbed 2 nil to Scunny or Gillingham in front of 3-4,000 on a wet Tuesday night. Sure occasionally NInian PK would be a cauldron. More often than not it was pretty sleepy.

to get the ninian park atmosphere back i would join in with the FSF who are campaigning for safe standing area's to be allowed back in stadiums.
i would then if promoted extend the back of the canton end and turn it all in to a safe standing area therby giving us the eqivilant of the old grange.

Much prefer the new stadium to the old. I absolutely loved NP whilst growing up (under the TV gantry on the open terrace Bob Bank), but it did get embarrassing towards the end and it was like a morgue and a library rolled into one on the BBT for the last 4 seasons and that included the Swansea 2-2 and the Arsenal 0-0, so yes, massive games both with a shite atmosphere. I gave up trying to start chants on there after about 3 games, plus I couldn't even get a pint, so the BBT hip flask was as important as your match ticket
Our footballing record was shite at NP too. My own personal arch rivals, the Wurzles, used to love coming to NP. I think they've got a slightly different view of the CCS, thank feck
I've been everywhere in the CCS apart from the Prem seating (to watch a match anyway), and the atmosphere has been as good if not better than at NP.
Definately reckon we need to set up a singing section though - an area where all like minded fans could buy their season tickets and a warning was given to people when they went to buy in that section, so they were aware that it would be the singing section. The club shouldn't have any concerns over this - it's still very manageable due to the seats and the crystal clear CCTV.
Lastly, I'd also welcome a singing 'committee' if you like, or even through a forum on here or the ccmb where people send in their song ideas and people vote on the best ones (think I saw someone else mention this earlier).

I spent six seasons in the bob bank and loved it but I don't miss it at all. I much prefer the new stadium.

I was a regular at Ninian Park from 1972 onwards and loved the place and all the memories but it was a decaying wreck towards the end and had to be put out of it's misery. I just wish we could have given Ninian Park a proper send off not the farce that was the Ipswich match and the debacle that followed at the end of the match.
However i honestly dont think we would be where we are now without the CCS let's be honest the maximum number of home fans we could have got into Ninian Park would probably 18,000 and quite possibly a lot less because i don't think the Football League would have allowed standing in the Grange!
The CCS is a great Stadium and the atmosphere is down to us fans after all the same fans that sung in Ninian Park are in the CCS but are dispersed around the ground. One of the best things the CCS as done as removed all the friction and potential for trouble that used to exist on Sloper Road consequently it's much safer and as a result more families are coming and it is the children who are coming now who are our future support.
However we can improve the Stadium by offering better facillities where are the sit down areas with tables in the concourse that were promised by Julian and the Club when they were doing presentations of the new Stadium??
Also we need to get the atmosphere going by creating a singing section there is no way the Club is going to swap the the Canton and Grange End sections around so the compromise should be the creation of a singing section in Blocks 116 & 117 of the Ninian Stand.
I think the Club should look at the contract that was signed with Compass and if there is a possibility of 'buying' it out then make the prices more reasonable and promote all food sold under the Bluebird brand and make everyone aware that every penny goes to the Club.
The CCS is ours so let's make it as good as we possibly can

Cracking point Blue Heaven re: tables and chairs for around the bars. Not sure if this was simply down to cost, but to have a 'pub' like area for people including tv screens, sofas, tables, hell even fruit machines and pool tables is surely not unfeasible? Could have sit down meals like Spoons provide etc.
Call it Murrays / Clarkes / Keenors / Dwyers / Schwinkendorffs

etc a la Shearers Bar - think it would be a winner, could be used for both football and egg chasing and would certainly encourage me to get there earlier.
I went to watch Newport County last season when 'Boilergate' prevented our game v Leicester, and thought how great it would be if we had a clubhouse like they had. This could easily be built in the huge spaces under the Ninian Stand.

Great shout Arfur the concourse is huge and building a Club House under there must be feasible keep the price of drink and food reasonable and i think the fans would flock there and i would definitely name it either Keenor Bar or the 1927 Bar

I know I say this through rose tinted glasses, but the new ground will never be a patch on Ninian Park..... I began watching the City there as a 14 year old boy back in 1984, and instantly felt like I belonged... I was a bit of a loner at school and never fitted in to any of the cliques, but the minute I walked through the old lady's gates I always felt a part of something special, a part of a club that at the time, only a handful of boys in my school attended...
Although I knew a move was inevitable, and if I'm honest, a must for the club to advance, and survive, I have never felt the same way about the new ground as it has none of the heart or soul that Ninian Park had.... I no longer feel the club is mine, but instead feel just like a paying customer and nothing more now as it's all a bit too sterile and cold for me.... and can anyone HONESTLY say that a full Cardiff City Stadium has anywhere near the atmosphere and passion that a full Ninian Park had?.... but, like I said originally, maybe I am seeing the old lady through rose tinted glasses, am showing my age

, and fear change as the old ground made me feel accepted and part of something unique and special....

NP will always be missed because it was part of MY history - MY childhood - good and bad memeories that made MY Cardiff City loves n hates
However it's "history" and "memories" that i have from being a child with my Dad growing up and now i am making the same with my boy in the CCS
Are you happy We moved and prefer the New Stadium ?
It is pointless looking back and thinking about if we were still at NP or what is preferred - the new stadium was always going to be needed and we have to move on to the fact this is CCFC's new playground - for any progression for the club the stadium and facilities had to be sorted - NP was a dive towards the end very pitiful to see - so lets make the CCS somewhere for the new fans and the children now coming thru in their support a place THEY will have "memories" made and that they want to keep coming to everyhome game - not just the big guns! Are you now Content with the New Stadium or Could it still improve ?
Content no BUT definate improvement on NP - clean toilets and lots of them - more bars and ability to mix with friends that are in other areas of the ground at half time.......
A big annoyance is the queues what ever time you get to go in for a game its always bloody long on gate 6 !!!!!
The shop needs work on!

Difficult one this.
Been going to NP since mid 70's.
I was always of the school that nothing could ever replace NP, and they should have redeveloped it like eg Hillsborough.
But as time goes on, I've got so used to CCS. It's the same pre match ritual, the same walk up, and TBH I've not given much thought to it at all.
Commerciality aside, it has overall been a success but I do concur with the author's post about the lack of atmosphere.
Its amazing to get so blase about 24,25,000 crowds that were only witnessed by me in mid 70's at NP.
I do miss though the rousing support that was evident at NP in the final years coming from the Bob Bank, Grange End etc.
We are stuck with it and there is no point being melancholy about it - there is a new breeed of football fan as well. Not everyone likes to chant and sing.
