Stewards Honest Opinions

Ive been a steward in the response team for 5 seasons now and i do enjoy my job, though the money could be better lol. I have always supported Cardiff City along with my family, I am also a season ticket holder. One thing I have always been proud of as a Cardiff City steward is the understanding between steward and fan, home or away. I always put myself on the line to ensure Cardiff fans are safe especially at away games. On sunday is the biggest home game of the season and if it was anything like last seasons home game i will be working my socks off from the moment me and my team have to search every swansea fan who enters the stadium then i will spend time trying to keep our fixtures and fittings in one piece in the away end, whilst i receive torrents of abuse and death threats from our visitors. Then at kick-off I will probably take up position on the seg line while i make sure no individuals are endangering themselves from possible crushing scenarios, while i am pelted with coins. During the game i may be called to any number of situations from fights and first aid calls to searching for missing children. At the end of the game I will be back on the seg line, while cardiff and swansea exchange banter, as last season i will probably notice a small child scared and in trouble whilst he struggles to stay on his feet while cardiff exchange banter. I will lean over and protect this child by making a small space for him to stand safely untill his father or brother find him, whilst doing this i will probably be punched once or twice and kicked in the ribs. I will never make complaints to the police and i will tell my team leader that the day passed without incident.
My point is dont underestimate what stewards do during a game, but I am intrigued what you feel about us as it seems the respect is disappearing.

Some stewards are great and do a great job others couldnt give a flying fck and have some sort of weird power trip.

Some Stewards are right up themselves where else some do a fantastic job, i can see you are clearly in the first group Chief only joking. Sounds like you do a first class job just like coppers the bad ones give the good uns a bad name.

It is a shame that we have such fans that mean things like that happen to you. People have no respect these days, hopefully one day we will have a stadium full of proper fans.

Fair enough to you mate, many people know there are oright Stewards in the ground.. but you get the odd steward that is over the top, if you know what i mean?

I think there are various feelings on stewards, I guess at Ninian park there seemed less and people got to know the stewards and have some banter i.e Ravenilli etc, now at the new ground there are massed ranks of them and a few fans have had bad experiences. I have noticed a few instances which consistency is not there for example I have seen fans buy flags outside the ground but then when enter the canton the flag pole is snapped by the stewards stipulating how the flag pole is too long , but there is a chap in the ninian stand who has his there every week , I have seen over zealous checking of id and season tickets when trying to enter the stadium etc etc, I guess you decide to do the role and best of luck to you i dont dislike or like the stewards and appreciate the efforts of the genuine ones who have the fans interests at heart

sometimes its just a case of thinking outside of the box, if you cant see the game because everyone around you is standing up and you want to sit down, fine not a problem, but instead of getting me to argue with six guys to try and get them to sit down ill ask you can i re-seat you and find you an area where others are sitting down. Then its a win win situation, the guys who want to stand up can and the guy who wants to sit down can.

Im actually disgusted that a steward, who is there to protect, will break the rules like that. They are there for a reason, and YOU should be enforcing it.

ok so what about the leniency during moments of excitement where supporters are allowed to stand, you could argue to me that an entire 90 minute game is a 'moment of excitement'. You seem clearly unhappy about the situation you are in can i ask where you sit.

What sort of post is that? We have such fans like that !! I am certainly not like that and i haven't seen anyone like that. You make it sound like all City fans are that way inclined when in fact he was describing the away end
