Any Mechanics..

So.. my room mate has a problem. He went to start his car but it started shuddering, and the orange engine light came on. Obviously he's going to take it to the garage anyway, but Just wondered if anyone knew what shit might be. I thought the fan belt perhaps because of the shuddering.
Its a 03 ford fiesta zetec btw.

any help would be top

orange light? engine managment system light! somthing wrong with the engine, will proberly need to be plugged into a garage station to diagnose the problem

is it turning over atall now?

Yeh it still starts, tho the shuddering makes it a nightmare to drive at all tbh.

ill let him know, think he taking it down the garage.

They connect the spark plugs, Easy job really.

the leads (HT leads) that go to the spark plugs connect to it its square on that car black in colour and looks like this

leads go back on in order they come off if you change it

and they are about £30 from motor factors

yeh i tried taking the spark plugs off and drying them, but its worse now lol
Ill look into the coil packs. thanks guys

its only the one pack the 4 leads go on to it phone around £30 ish

OK, THIS COULD BE ANYTHING MATEY!

not just leads, plugs, coils etc etc..... what also makes this slightly different is that its an 03 model and therefore is probably EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) where other factors come into play.

To be able to get you a better (rough) idea of your problem i need to know more about the shuddering?

does it do it when its just sat there ticking over? or is it as soon as you start to move? on the clutch etc etc - what type of shuddering is it - describe what us happening? does the engine sound lumpy? or is it ticking over eratically or chasing?

Im pretty handy with cars, but cant help you without a better idea of whats going on? could be a very simple answer, oh and by the way - it is NOT the fan (auxillary) belt doing this - it would have no effect on the feel of the car.

Well before we removed the spark plugs and replaced them, it was shuddering whilst static, but now it doesnt stay on, makes a horrible noise and dies...
