CARDIFF CITY @CardiffCityFC 1975-76
Under the management of Jimmy Andrews, the Bluebirds achieved their primary objective by winning promotion back to Football League Division Two at the first attempt and capping off the year by lifting the Welsh Cup

Fantastic!!
Although my 1st game was in 73, the 75/76 was my first as a season ticket holder (Canton stand).
I loved this team.

I went on a round Britain cruise just after Covid and one of the places we called in at was Invergordon. When I read up about the place I found that one of the notable people born there was none other than Jimmy Andrews.

Great manager , Great Team , Great Kit and great times.
I dont think there was ever a game where Alston and/or Evans would not be on the scoresheet (or it certainly felt that way).
Also Jimmy Took a chance on Robin Friday.
Great memories at the old Ninian wooden creosoted canton stand But thinking about it now and watching the documentary of how that awfull Bradford fire started - It really was an accident waiting to happen. So glad the UK learned its lessons and banned all wooden stands.

The Grange End was an accident waiting to happen as well, what with all that paper under the wooden railway sleepers, never mind the constant bouncing up & down weakening them, damn they were strong.

I can still picture Doug Livermores diving header against Hereford. Even more remarkable was that Alan Campbell scored the other, and I don't think either of them scored too often for us. As the post earlier said it was normally Evans or Alston.
Over 35k in attendance at Ninian that night!!

Met him on Nottingham train station coming back from Notts county away...very gentle spoken ...it was the week before Everton in the fa cup ..he told us we'll be OK against them...and when Peter sayer opened the scoring I thought he was right ...unfortunately Duncan mckenzie scored 2 and knocked us out ...but a great time following Cardiff when he was manager and loved the Jersey....

Annis, they were great years following the City, Alston and Evans up front were brilliant together.

That season was my first as a ST holder, as I was kicking my heels while my father bought the tickets Jimmy Andrews saw me and took me into his office showed me around and then gave me a pin badge, which I treasured! Great man, great season, attracting the likes of Mike England, Douglas Livermore and Alan Campbell to the third division was a masterstroke!
