BBM SAYS HE’S AXED STRIKER STRIKER CALLUM ROBINSON BECAUSE H

Thu Oct 22, 2026 9:41 am

Barry-Murphy has confirmed Robinson was unavailable for selection because he had fallen short of the standards expected of players at the club, although the Cardiff boss was keen to stress the forward is back in training and there is no wider issue between them.

Cardiff are desperate as well for a Striker.

BBM:

"We have certain standards that all the players have to adhere to before they're considered for selection,
," Barry-Murphy said ahead of Cardiff's meeting with Birmingham City on Saturday.

The Republic of Ireland international was conspicuous by his absence as the Bluebirds earned a point at the Riverside Stadium last weekend, with his omission initially raising questions from supporters.

Brian Barry-Murphy :

"We have certain standards that all the players have to adhere to before they're considered for selection.

"Callum missed out on some of those before last Saturday, so he wasn't available, but he's back now.

"The standards we expect in the dressing room are internal.

"We're always judged in public, and that's fine, but the dressing room and how we work day by day are private for us.

"I think it would be wrong to presume what the reasons were.

"There are certain things that are very important for us on a daily basis, but they're for the dressing room and they always have to remain private.

"As I said, we're judged publicly every week, and we're fine with that.

"Supporters want to see certain qualities in their team week to week. We have to make sure those qualities remain the case day to day.

"They have to be private, they have to be ours.

"Callum's a great guy.

"He's been a great player for us and a great person, so there's no problem whatsoever. I'm very pleased to have him back in training this week."

None of us know what these standards are, but if he has fallen short then that's obviously not acceptable.

I did wonder why he was left out last week, remember Robinson's dad said on social media that he wasn't being treated fairly.

But if there are standards then there has to be discipline too.

Seems to me Callum Robinson spoke his mind, around why haven't been chosen and given a good chance, admittedly when he started 2 weeks ago he didn't do well in my eyes, but a run of games will sort that out and bring his sharpness back sooner enough.

Sharpness will come as you say but his legs have gone and imo doesn’t fit into the BBM way of playing - not for the wage he’s commanding anyway. Sorry if anyone doesn’t agree but that’s my opinion.

He clearly isn't in bbms plans

That was made clear last season when Salech was out for a lengthy period

I wouldn't be surprised if it's about attitude, he's probably spoke out about his game time and would explain why his dad has felt the need to post on social media

But he has to accept that he isn't the managers type of player

He needs to get his agent and start looking at where he could go in the summer

I do feel for him but these things happen in football, just look at Petr Cech when he was at Arsenal

I feel Robinson has had a raw deal and we need a Striker.

But the Managers word is final end off.

BBM does not like anyone who speaks out or up to him and that’s why we don’t bring in leaders or hard men.

If he let players walk all over him he'd be called weak.

Would you play Robinson over Moylan right now?

BBM’s rules are same for everyone, no hard feelings. Same with Robertson last season, and if I’m remembering there was someone else but I’ve forgotten.

If anything I respect him more for it given Robinson has popped up with 2 goals in his last 2 appearances.

Turnbull got left out for the opener for something similar

Important to remember that this applies to last week's game. He's available again now, although doubtful he'll play with Moylan doing well and Salech back.

I said halfway through last season that him moving on is the best for all parties and I stick by that.

Problem is nobody else will pay the big wages he's on with us so unless he takes a paycut somewhere in January, then he'll probably stay until the end of the season when his contract expires.

His standards on the trainning ground are matching what he does on the pitch ,he has not been match fit or generally fit enough for the championship its a higher standard than league 1 the guys legs went a long time ago but no good me saying about another striker ,I have said enough on that.

He'd be a nice 12th choice in a starting 11. He's never been a 'nailed on starter' for me over the years.

I think its time to part ways.

Part ways how? He's under contract on a big wage. Nobody is signing/loaning him in January and I don't think anyone thinks he's getting a new contract in the summer

Probably shouldn’t, but I wonder if there is some frustration involved on Calum’s side? :?

He’s known to be one of the top characters in the changing room, so I hope this washes over quickly and everyone over on :ayatollah:

Robinson is happy to take the high wage he is being paid but not happy to stick to the standards BBM has introduced.

Anyone with an ounce of footballing knowledge can see his style doesn’t fit in with what BBM demands. Robinson will know that too and, no doubt, could have got a move away in the summer if he was willing to drop his wages. He clearly wasn’t so he therefore has to get his head down and be ready for any chances he gets.

Can anyone really make a case for Robinson to playing instead of Salech or, in Salech’s absence, Moylan ………… !!??

Yes, because he's a much better goalscorer than Salech - who, in my opinion, is ridiculously over-rated.

Spoken with Callum numerous times and his relationship with BBM is good.
He knows the situation and been made clear of it but is wanted as a squad player.
I 100 percent certain it's not attitude.
Bring late more like.

Dead wood. Wrong attitude and one of those senior players who went hiding the year we got relegated. Need to offload him asap.

Sounds more like sports science talk that he was not performing to standards during training in other words wasn't trying hard enough to put a sweat on? Had a rest last game and raring to go!

The problem lies with us not getting another striker in before the transfer window closed - If Salech is out we have Robbo ???
Fair play to BBM and Moylan where we have found the answer - Let this be a lesson come Jan .
