Fantastic news; albeit late in the day!
Great manager for both sides, achieving promotion with both, as well as astonishingly reaching the quarter-finals of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1981 with Cewnty, and a genuine guy, too!
They had some very good players at that time, including Tommy Tynan; and several of whom crossed the divide to play for both clubs
Still Sunderland FC’s outfield appearance record holder with 453 games (only behind legendary Mackems keeper Jim Montgomery’s incredible 627) and of the most trophy-laden managers ever; mainly ‘cos he owned that trophy shop in Canton!
RIP, Len Ashurst
