A delegation of European diplomats has been attacked by masked Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank.

Belgium condemned the assault on its consul general and the other envoys and called for Israel to bring those responsible to justice.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also condemned what they called "the severe act of violence" and said they were investigating.

But the office of the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cast doubt on what happened and suggested it was part of a "coordinated campaign to smear Israel".

The attack came only a day after a number of Palestinians and Heidi Levine, a Washington Post photographer, were injured in a separate assault by settlers in another village in the West Bank.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the attack on Levine was "disturbing" and "not a good look".

It was also condemned by the US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, who called it a "despicable act of terror carried out by masked cowards". A staunch ally of Israel, Huckabee said the assailants must face "prosecution to the fullest extent of the law".

I am becoming more and more convinced he is somehow financially or personally compromised by the Russians (maybe Putin personally) and his current eccentricities are a mix of his age and his desperation to ‘keep the Russians sweet’ before he is (unlikely) sectioned or (more likely) loses the upcoming midterms and his ‘power’ is somewhat diminished

Chris its been blatantly obvious for years Netanyahu only wants war not peace only need to take look at the strategic assassinations of all the people that was acceptable to everyone and at time peace was all but agreed... the iran buisness was his pride and joy and he knew trump was stupid enough to go along with his madness! If people look at whats happening there's a tide of feeling that the atrocities need ending and opposition is growing on all sides... let's hope Netanyahu and trump lose elections and maybe they'd be room for peace at least a real start of it
