Swindon away Easter 1971- we were going for promotion. We had all the covered terrace behind the goal and also half way up the side of the pitch. And we were packed in like sardines. The crowd was 22K at a time when Swindon were getting around 10K. There must have been 8000 at least

Other big ones

Palace away 75/76, - there were 63 coaches apparently Scunthorpe away when we won the League, Both games were around 6K

I believe JJ1927 has the correct answer as far as i m concerned
Swindon away EASTER 1971
I agree with everything he said
CROWD was 22k and there must have been 13k to 14k
absolute mayhem
Palace Bristol Rovers and Bury were big but nothing has come near Swindon as far as i m concerned

Not saying it's our biggest ever following but wasn't there a game at Brentford at Griffin Park that was either postponed or where a few thousand couldn't get in?

Was that the season Malcolm Alison bet a case of champagne that Palace would have a bigger crowd, he lost.

Yes Jock, the following Wednesday we had over 35,000 for the Hereford game, 10,000 more than palace had for the match against us, I think he also said he'd eat his fedora hat if we had a bigger crowd.

Scunthorpe away when we won the league was big, Brentford on Xmas time when most of us didn’t get in, Arsenal away on a Monday night replay fa cup. Great times, some good trips around then Darlington when we lost but still got in the playoffs, Cambridge when we were both top of league and lost 1-0, Millwall in the auto glass on a Tuesday night was good ha, Tottenham in the league cup. :bluebird:

Its nice that someone else remembers that game. I said 8K because i wanted to be very conservative and thought people would thing I was exaggerating if I suggested more but i did actually remember it as being more. Not sure if it was as high as you are suggesting but at least half the crowd - say 11K.

I can remember getting off the second of many football specials that day and marching down to the ground in my check shirt, braces and stay press with Frankie leading the way!! Warboys got 2 but we only drew and ultimately blew it by losing at home to Watford 1-0 the following week. Great away days
