Brian Barry-Murphy pulls no punches after Cardiff City’s disappointing display.
The Bluebirds boss admitted his side were simply not good enough in the first half against Blackburn, insisting they have to “take it on the chin” after a performance that left him frustrated.
On the overall performance:
“We’re very disappointed. Very disappointed with our performance. We didn’t feel as if it was good enough to give ourselves a chance to win the game.”
On the first-half display:
“We gave the ball away in really dangerous areas by our standards and we weren’t good enough in possession.
“And then we lacked aggressiveness. We stepped back today and didn’t push forward, and that cost us.”
On what he told his players at half-time:
“I would just remind the players of one of the most important parts of our game and how aggressive we have to be, how we have to step forward.
“We knew we’d be attacking our supporters in the second half. Really, we gave them nothing to cheer about in the first half.”
On the improved second half:
“We showed signs of what we’re capable of in the second half. It probably only heightens our disappointment in terms of how we performed in the first half.”
On failing to find a second goal:
“We had really good situations and, with the players that we would normally back to find the correct solution in those situations, we pushed right to the end.
“But I don’t want to shy away and make excuses. If we’re really clear and honest with ourselves, we weren’t good enough today. As such, we have to take it on the chin.”
