Monty,

I think you might be right on the Spain one as they all say over here they are with it.

Privately all parties will agree that the rate the UK state pension is rising is unsustainable.

Whoever wins the next election will have to stop that rise being so sharp.

Speak to any economist and they'll tell you that the triple lock has to change. The IFS have constantly said it needed to be removed or adjusted.

It's absolutely shocking. You work for over 40 years contributing to the running of this country only for illegal immigrants to be treated better than you.

Labour and conservative have sent this country down the shitter.

You can also stop sending billions of so called "aid" overseas.

Great post I dispise this country's weak spinless government who don't know the difference between right and wrong it's cringeworthy.

Those are political arguments.

But the point I'm making is all parties agree privately that the triple lock as it is can't be sustainable. It isn't, whatever you do elsewhere.

People can debate the right way to do that adjustment but it just can't carry on as it is. It was brought in for the right reasons by the Tories but now it needs to be adjusted.

I understand what you're saying but it should be "the triple lock as it is can't be sustainable, so where can we reduce outlays to look after our own citizens" but unfortunately it won't be. We will suffer.

Pensioners will freeze and starve this winter but as long as the illegal immigrants are safe and warm and well fed in their 4 or 5 star hotels playing on their new iPhones and playstations who cares.........

They do know the difference between right and wrong and they've chosen wrong.
They're not governing us the WEF/Fabians/Globalists are calling the shots and our extreme left wing Govt are carrying out their wishes like good little boys and girls.

There are many may pensioners who only have a state pension and they are going to find it difficult to survive. if this goverment is looking for money to pay for social care which will not include residential care, then there is an easy answer. Stop paying benefit scroungers who have not paid a penny into the system and also those claiming for things that have not been even diagnosed. and also stop paying illegals any benefit, and stop the bloody boats.
Also ADHD seems to be the latest benefit scam, as there is no reason that IF people are diagnosed with it there is no reason that they cannot work.
I could go on, but really what is the point, Labour would rather penelise pensioners rather that benefits given to people who should never be given benefits

Annis, it's a disgrace the way this government treats pensioners, firstly it was the winter fuel allowance now this, far more money could have been saved from cutting overseas aid or the welfare bill. I've just retired, i've worked and paid into the system for 51 years and i'm still paying tax on my private pensions while millions of lazy bast***s just pick up their benefits. The ballot box will put pay to this lot.

Yes needs changing but then so does the tax limit! By time the freeze is due to be lifted it will cost me hundreds of pounds in tax monthly all because I am above freshhold with state pension now never mind small nhs pension topping it up.. 2.5% (anual rise expected in future years) represents less than £200 annual rise for next 10yrs knowing labours intentions!

Re: Guess which is unaffordable?

Figures are not quite comparable. In many other countries - France being one- there is a higher social security tax which people have to pay into and which goes towards the more generous pension. In UK we traditionally had quite a high amount paid into private pensions or employers pensions. Many public sector pensions are very generous but thats another story!!

Re: Guess which is unaffordable?

Thu Oct 01, 2026 1:56 pm

France would be lower and the UK higher if they didn't send all their immigrants to the UK.

Guess which country above the UK in that table pays less in tax? (Hint, it’s none).

Can’t sit here demanding higher pensions but also not wanting higher taxes.

Not sure demanding higher pensions more like no more screwing us for more and more money? Changing triple lock is ok as long as the tax burden is made higher to compensate for it... removing triple lock will mean 2.5% rise in future without it its 3.9% ....... apparently tax drag as they call it is due to run until 2031! Thats 10yrs in total no wonder we ate paying more and more I pay over £125 in tax on roughly 20k income 2 pensions state and nhs..... future rises will be 1% nhs or 2.5% state probably stay like that for ever while prices far exceed that... workers won't put up with reductions in wages (thats the reality) why should us pensioners do so?

Yes mate. A load landed in Bridgend last week but numbers are varying from 40 to 115 ATM. No one is saying where they are being housed but it's very worrying times especially for women and children.

Not according to Labour the .migrants are a harmless bunch and women and children should not be frightened especially the girls, as they handed out a leaflet asking them not to rape or harass young girls .
so what's to worry about and bugger the cost of it and remember all these single men are traumatised oh, and they left all there grandparents behind.

It's shocking and unbelievable times we live in.

I have a grandson who will be 3 on Sunday and I'm terrified of the country and world he will grow up in. If labour or conservative get voted in in 2029 this country is permanently gone.

You’re still getting a pension increase without the triple lock you’re just not getting the double benefit of getting an increase for both inflation and earnings growth.

Say one year inflation was the lever used and it went up say 5% and then the following year earnings was the lever used again at 5% then pensioners benefit twice against working people.

In that period working people would have had an increase of less than 5% in year one, and then 5% in year two, whereas pensioners would get the 5% in year one and then another 5% on top of that the following year, being better off than working people despite the working people being the ones to pay for the pension.

Removing the triple lock just means that the government can make the pension growth equal to working people’s growth across the same period

Re: Guess which is unaffordable?

The government say you need a minimum of £12 pound and hour to live on if you are working, the state pension is less than half that ,how can that be right, pensioners still need to buy food , heating and other bills not a lot of difference to like someone who is working, stop all the money they give to migrants, foreign aid etc then they will have plenty of money for our pensioners
