Bellamys Replacement Thread?

Tue Sep 29, 2026 9:07 am

A significant chunk of posters on here want Bellamy gone, but for who?

Is there anyone out there that can get this average squad performing better against 3 nations who are ranked higher than us?

At the time of writing..
Wales - 38th (and trending negatively)
Denmark - 21st (stable)
Norway - 19th (and trending positively)
Portugal - 7th (stable)

He's sacked tomorrow, who comes in to improve this/gets your support?

I agree mate. We’re probably doing as best as we can under the circumstances. We can’t buy a player; we’re stuck with what we have.

There are loads of good managers out there, but the Welsh FA are stupid and will only go for a cheap, Welsh manager.

Rob Edwards is without a club.

Why can't we be ambitious and go for someone like Thomas Frank or Vitor Pereira?

It's very likely that the Welsh FA cannot afford all 3 though. Lets just say they do, do any of them have us beating teams 20+ places below us in the rankings? Not for me, then it's money down the drain.

I'd ride it out till Euro qualification and re-calibrate our expectations. The Bale era is over.

I do understand why some want him gone though, as we are win-less in 2026.

I mentioned Thomas frank on another thread or even Roberto martinez I'd take either one of them but I can't see Wales being that ambitious

Pep hasn't got a club yet either might as well go all in with the big bucks the FAW can throw around

The Philippines managed to get Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Iran, Qatar, Oman and now Ghana have appointed Carlos Queiroz.

I wanted Lars Lagerback years ago. Nigeria and Iceland managed to get him.

Are you seriously saying we have less resources than these countries?

Yes!

Loosely found google quotes..

"Craig Bellamy earns an estimated annual salary of £500,000 as the manager of the Wales National Football Team."

"Sven as manager of Philippines, his final job in football. Said to have a contract worth £2m a year"

"New Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz is on $100,000 monthly Salary."

We'd be in the Aaron Ramsey style affordability. Maybe a Gunter etc.

Bellamy is taking us backwards. He only knows one way of playing - having a go and taking the game to the opponents. Playing this way against superior teams leaves us wide open and this is why Bellamy is yet to beat a team in the top 50.

I think a more tactically astute manager would have defeated Bosnia and set us up to be more organised and difficult for superior teams to play against.

Bellamy only has one plan and when that doesn't work, he can't tactically adapt.

So if the tiny Phillipines can pay those salaries, what are the Welsh FA doing?

Where is all the extra leftover money going?

You can't honestly believe the Phillipines have a larger budget than Wales?

I agree that Craig Bellamy is taking us backwards. Only one way of playing, inconsistent team selection and continues to pick favourites ahead of obviously better players. Has the ex Ipswich manager got a job yet ?. Even Ashley Williams would be better than Bellers

I'd go for a manager who's not to worried about style, in international if you can be compact hard beat you can overacheve. The manager coach doesn't have time to improve players but can work on effective set pieces. If you can combine being hard to beat and able to nick a goal from a corner or free kick you've got a chance.
I believe at international level fans would put up with this if you pick up decent results.

The guy has failed. He had his chance against Bosnia, a team we should have beaten, but HE failed.

Since then we have had Burnley-Gate which has left a very sour taste in many Welsh fans mouths. To compound all of this he selects a team of previous under performers, topped up by bizarre randoms. It is quite obvious to most that he has lost the plot!

There is no direction and if you don't think he has lost the dressing room you are a mile away.

So who would replace him is the question? Quite frankly any man and his dog as we are on a downward spiral and the longer Bellers stays the worse it gets. :bluebird:

I think steve Cooper would make a decent international manager his teams are always well structured and hard to break down which when you have a team like wales where theres not an endless amount of top quality talent , just being hard to beat is better than being wide open like we are at the moment

Why aren't The Philippines dominating world football then?

It's because there's a lack of infrastructure and they focus on basketball as their main sport.

I think a few people in this thread should be working for the Welsh FA with the way you're accepting our lack of ambition, with lesser nations getting much better managers than us.

Perhaps a geography lesson for you. Phillipines tiny? You listed a load of other places with huge populations and oil money too. We are incredibly small in the toughest region and we've punched above our weight for years.

Craig Bellamy remains convinced Wales are worthy of their place in the Nations League top tier despite a losing start to the campaign.

Wales are without a point in their group following a 2-0 defeat in Denmark just three days after losing 1-0 to Portugal in Lisbon.

Wales - without a victory in six matches in 2026 - have failed to win any of their eight matches in League A when combining their current efforts with those in 2022.

But having gained promotion from League B in his first campaign as boss, Bellamy insists Wales have earned the right to come up against Europe's elite on a consistent basis as they prepare to face Erling Haaland's Norway next.

"For us, this [Norway game] is another one, the intensity, top players, real speed," Bellamy added.

"It's what group A is, up and down all the group As. When we were in the pot, we were in pot four and we thought, 'where do you want to be?'.

"They're all brilliant, but we've earned the right to be here."

Wales results in League A
September 2026: Denmark 2-0 Wales

September 2026: Portugal 1-0 Wales

September 2022: Wales 0-1 Poland

September 2022: Belgium 2-1 Wales

June 2022: Netherlands 3-2 Wales

June 2022: Wales 1-1 Belgium

June 2022: Wales 1-2 Netherlands

June 2022: Poland 2-1 Wales
