The highly anticipated heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua looks destined for Wales, with Cardiff emerging as the strong favourite to host the bout.
A mooted date of Friday, December 11, has been set for the Principality Stadium, and streaming giant Netflix is lined up to broadcast the spectacular event.
Joshua's contract insists the fight must happen in the UK, which ruled out Madison Square Garden and the Middle East. With Wembley Stadium lacking a roof, Cardiff quickly became the top choice. The city centre venue previously hosted Joshua's 2017 victory over Carlos Takam, drawing a massive crowd of 78,000.
Taking to Instagram, Fury shared a photo of himself at the stadium with a Welsh dragon in the background, tagging Brendan Lyons of Lyons Den Security, who has protected the boxer in the past.
The Gypsy King expressed his excitement, stating that a Welsh fight would be amazing because his mother's people are from Wales, making it feel like a homecoming.
An official announcement could come as early as this week, but the looming event is already causing accommodation chaos. The fight threatens to collide with the festive party season and Christmas shopping, making for what could be the busiest weekend in years.
Hotel rooms are incredibly scarce, with The Hilton, Parkgate, and Marriott completely sold out on the night of the fight. A room at the Travelodge on Cardiff Queen Street is approaching 500 pounds, and one two-bedroom city centre apartment is up for grabs for an astonishing 2,500 pounds.
Timings could also pose a challenge, as organisers are reportedly keen to satisfy US television audiences.
However, Cardiff Council confirmed to WalesOnline that the stadium's current licence only permits boxing events until 1am when the roof is closed.
The council stated that no application to extend the curfew has been received, an application that would take 28 days to clear.
As negotiations between the two camps and Netflix continue, fans are eagerly waiting to see if this historic British showdown is officially confirmed.
