Dalman reveals stance on DoF

Mon Sep 21, 2026 12:49 pm

Dalman asked about the prospect of a Director of Football, after Stephen McPhail was spotted in the Directors' Box on Saturday:

"I don't think we're ready for that discussion yet.

"If you bring in a third person and make him head of football, and that doesn't actually work with the manager well, managing that process is going to be very difficult.

"I don't want the manager to play with any player that he doesn't want. That's the danger of bringing a third person in.

"You could have a situation where someone says, 'I think we should get a new striker,' and the manager says, 'No, I don't think so.'

"Then you have someone saying, 'But you've got to have one,' and the manager saying, 'But I don't want to play somebody I don't want.'

"You've got to have those dialogues."

A DOF is pointless in all due respect

Tan will still have final say so it's just another person to go on the payroll who will have no real control over proceedings

Interesting he says a DoF may not work with the manager well.

Been pointed out on social media that McPhail was in Cork with BBM for the pre-season trip and he's been to a few games this season, so I'm guessing those two get on well.

BBM give a name or Names of footballers he would like to DOF and lets him get on with it while BBM carries on with his normal duties.Even better if they get on.

DOF is or as gone out of fashion! Liverpool just got rid of theirs its like several a season in premier league change theirs...
Whats more important is an owner who understands football and believes in the manager/coach....

Haha , seems a lame excuse .
Well we need someone to run the place who knows about football , never mind let’s keep with the choos chosen ones which won’t be bought

f**k him and the used car salesman off and get someone in who know about football and the fans would help and let BBM get on with the team picking and who he wants although he can want all he wants under these f*cking idiots we already above him, it means nothing. He works with what he's got :bluescarf:

I would hope that a DOF would have got I of these right.

1.no to Murphy
2. No to madine
3. Warnock was not up to the premiership
4. Sadly Sala did not go on a faulty plane and not be insured.
5. Bulut never a new contract after the end of the season we had.

6. Raza should have gone earlier.

When you look at where Brighton are now , and we were fighting with them to stay in the premiership. 1 well run club and 1 poor run club.

DOF is only useless if you’re already a well run club. We are run by 3 clowns so a DOF that BBM is happy to work with would be an improvement.

It's quite funny he even said that considering we know in the past they've signed players the manager didn't ask for, like Roko Simic.

Backwards step: McPahils is not a world expert on football.

I would trust BBM's judgement over anyone we could afford.

Warnock knew ten times more than McPhail ever will; he got us to the Premier League and would have kept us there if the plane pilot hadn't gambled instead of pulling out and waiting until the next day.

But a DOF would still have to deal with the 3 clowns so what would be the point of one?

Interesting indeed, Ned. New ‘Head of Operations’ coming in to bridge the gap between BBM and Chief Executive? :? :ayatollah:

If bridge the gap means remove Choo from the football operations great. If it doesn't it's a bit of a pointless exercise
