Joel Colwill spoke to the press after his recent call-up to the Wales national team squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.
JOEL COLWILL :
"I'm delighted. It's a real honour to be picked for Wales." Joel began. "It's something I'll never take for granted, and I'm really grateful for the opportunity.
"It's a really big learning experience for me. Every day when I'm on camp, I'm always trying to learn as much as I can from the coaches and the top talents, the boys in the Premier League.
"Cian [Ashford] definitely deserves his call-up. I think he's played really well this season, and he was brilliant last season as well for us. I'm really happy for him to finally get his call-up."
City go into Saturday's clash with Charlton Athletic looking for their first win of the Championship season, with Joel confident that performances will soon begin to translate into points.
JOEL COLWILL:
"I think our performances have been really good in games. We're not silly, we all know that we need to get a win to match those performances. I feel like the way we're playing, a win is just around the corner.
"The style that we're playing is really good, and we're creating lots of chances. If we had been a little bit more clinical from some of those chances, we'd have had a couple of wins by now. It will come. There are goalscorers in the team, so if we keep creating those chances, the goals will follow.
"I think the fans have been brilliant, and it’s a credit to them. We’re just hoping now that we can get them a win, because they’ve travelled up and down the country last season, this season, every season. They’re there in full voice and you can hear them all the time."
Joel scored on his first Championship start against Stoke City last week, and spoke about the step up from League One to the second tier.
"It's naturally a step up in physicality and quality, but I think the team is more than good enough to match it. We've shown that we can match it; it's just trying to turn those performances into wins.
"There's always pressure to perform, at any level you're playing at. When I went on loan to League Two, there was pressure to perform there, and then the step up to League One was the same.
"I really enjoy it, and I think I can speak for the squad as well, from the conversations that we've had. We all think Brian is a great manager, and he sets us up in a great way to perform as well as we all can and play to the best of our abilities."
