A phrase I read and heard from Cardiff City supporters on numerous occasions during the summer before the current campaign began was ‘I reckon we’ll surprise a few people this season.’
That’s certainly proving to be the case, but not in the way those fans imagined. I always felt the Bluebirds would find this year’s Championship a lot more difficult than many supporters seemed to think, but I didn’t believe we’d still be winless after seven games, especially as our first batch of fixtures appeared to be relatively kind.
In terms of points gained after seven matches using the three-points-for-a-win system, there have only been six seasons in City’s entire history that have been worse than the current one and the club was relegated in five of those. The seasons concerned were:
2024/25 - 1 point
1930/31 - 2 points
1989/90 - 2 points
2018/19 - 2 points
1921/22 - 3 points
1984/85 - 3 points
