Now Visa problems after months:
Only Cardiff City:
10th September 2026
Cardiff City have had to abandon plans to appoint a new goalkeeper coach after visa issues scuppered the move.
At the beginning of July that Imanol Etxeberria, the former Manchester City academy coach, looked set to join Brian Barry-Murphy's staff.
But BBM has now confirmed the appointment hasn't been possible.
BBM:
“We had an appointment imminent that hasn't been possible due to visa issues.”
Cardiff have decided not to rush into another appointment and will instead look for a new coach during the upcoming international break.
“We didn't want to rush into anything off the back of that, but in the window that week when we break up, we'll have a new person in place.”
And when asked if that was definite, BBM was clear:
“We will have, yeah.”
So Cardiff are now searching again for a first-team goalkeeper coach, with Etxeberria's proposed move officially off the table.
The club have been without a permanent specialist in the role since Gavin Ward's departure at the end of last season.

That's a shame; someone needs to work with him on commanding his area and coming out to take pressure off the defenders, like for the mix-up with Bagan for the goal.

Certainly can't accuse the club of rushing anything.

How come it's visa issues if he was OK working at Man City?
Or is abuse of visa rules one of Man City's 115 charges?

Listen it will be inside our Department that’s messed it up.
We seem to be the only Club who f**k everything up.
Because we are run like an Amateur Club.

It's embarrassing down there behind the scenes abit like missing the accounts deadline so we went in to a transfer embargo 1 week before the window shut, as if somebody didn't know prior

You have to wonder where the line between genuine cock-up and deliberate f**king about is with this crew.

As i've stated over the Tan reign of OUR CLUB......"We are surrounded by fools and idiots" !!! They haven't got a clue about anything and its so very embarassing for us, the fans.

At the risk of everyone bashing me because I didn't bash the clown show over this why would it be so obvious that he couldn't get a visa when he had one to work at Man city? Or are we saying that they should have known how much to put in the brown envelope to the powers that be to make sure he did get a visa?
Maybe bribing govt. officials is one of the hundreds of charges against Man city that we'll never know about.

The search will go on until they find a goalkeeping coach who'll work for free.

I'm beginning to think the visa thing is just a convenient cover for the real reason.
It just doesn't make any sense.

Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the club was refusing to pay the visa sponsor fee or something along those lines.
I can’t see how it could be possible for a professional second division football coach to not get a visa otherwise.

Nothing makes sense about what's happening at the club. Its been an absolute shambles of a pre-season/start of season.
To think we've still not got a first team goalkeeper coach, let alone no U21 or U18 head coach is laughable.
The bare minimum of a squad too where 15 and 16 years olds are proping up our bench. It's all just a bit of a joke.
I'd love to know what's really going on. Who is really at fault for all this sh!t. What's happening that we don't know about. Has the rug been continually pulled from under BBM's feet or has he c0cked up or both.
Performance like Tuesday keep you going but they are only papering over the many cracks that exist at the CCFC.
Can you imagine the feeling when those 3 finally leave (and I mean all f'ing 3, not just Tan). It will be a party like no other down that stadium!!! One day hey!!!

There is a book waiting to be written here - we only have some snippets of the truth. And they seem pretty awful.
Still, we're not Wrexham.
