Barry-Murphy urges Cardiff City fans to remain calm




Brian Barry-Murphy has urged Cardiff City supporters not to get too downbeat about the club's difficult start to life back in the Championship, insisting there is still a long way to go this season.




The Bluebirds head into tonight's meeting with Stoke City in the relegation places after picking up just three points from their opening five matches, with Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Portsmouth leaving them still searching for their first league victory.

Stoke, meanwhile, arrive in south Wales after an emphatic 4-0 victory over Charlton Athletic.

Barry-Murphy accepts Cardiff's position is not where they want it to be, but believes there is no reason for panic at this stage of the campaign.

"It's a tough schedule. We knew these games were very close together in this opening period. With the squad the size of ours, that has its challenges," he said.

"I wouldn't get too carried away by where we are. As I say, it's still very early in the season. We have to remain calm."

The Cardiff head coach also stressed the importance of consistency from his young squad as they adjust to the demands of the Championship.

"We have worked together for a period with a lot of these players. We know how we work, and we've got to improve. That will remain the case," he added.

"We said it all last season; it's a very young team, and we need to help them and show them consistency in how we play. That is the route forward."

Barry-Murphy is confident that the current squad is capable of turning things around.

"We are very confident we can win games at this level, and I'm sure we will," he said.

"The fans always give us energy. We don't take that for granted. We understand that our job is to produce a performance on Tuesday that gives us a chance to win."

I think he probably does (know), as he’s not daft. However, he needs to boost the players, and the supporters who attend, in an effort to pull everyone together for that least 90 minutes plus added time tonight!
