A forum for all things Cardiff City

Cardiff head coach Brian Barry-Murphy told BBC Radio Wales:
“We will bounce back from this.”
"We didn't play well enough in the first half as a team, it's been a disappointing week naturally when you lose two games in close succession.”
"In the second half we created good chances but didn't take them.”
"We all want to play well, but we're human. We started off the game well but then we gave away the ball too much, and it was the same on Wednesday that you then become vulnerable to the counter-attack.”
"We'll bounce back tomorrow, show up on Monday and give it everything on Tuesday [against Stoke] to try and win."

Annis, I know we’re only five game in, but this sounds like he knows his days are numbered already.
His body language is piss poor, and he’ll lose the dressing from soon. Bleak again.
Sat Sep 05, 2026 5:56 pm
No he didn't. Thought it was a calm and positive interview, exactly what I wanted to hear. He knows it's not good enough but it's early days. If people start calling for his head as soon as we struggle then that's utterly pathetic. Get behind him and the team.
Sat Sep 05, 2026 5:56 pm
He has gambled on this group of players being good enough.
Clearly most have already been tried and failed in the championship.
He has no options on the bench etc to change things around.
Will division 1 with a championship squad be BBMs limitations.
At the moment he is struggling.

We just need to stay in touch with the pack until January and hope we bring in a bit more experience
There is no point sacking bbm and bringing in a dinosaur who will take us back to hoofing the ball up field
We dont have the players to play a physical long ball game , we just need to believe in bbm to turn this around hes earned a bit of patience from us
Sat Sep 05, 2026 6:00 pm
Trouble is he doesn't play to win whole game? Far to conservative no risk football never ever plays two up front unless its 10mins to go when losing! Rest time its usually game management? Most game is spent probing around 40yrds from goal taking as man passes as they can or passing to Tanner who really doesn't have the ability yo beat a man who marks him closely he needs space but then his final ball is dodgy at best.... sometimes think not a lot wrong if they can tighten defence but thats the problem we are not able to tighten it enough.

After 5 games i am less confident about staying up 3 points from 15 is never good at any time of the season

I know easier said than done but win Tues it looks lot better lose though and start to lose touch with main pack! Early days but having a win every couple games will keep us going but like you say January is a must for strengthening if no freebies dighn a proper striker to help salech is top priority to keep us in championship
Sat Sep 05, 2026 6:06 pm
He just needs to make adjustments, especially away from home. I firmly believe we should have beaten Derby and Sheffield. We controlled both games. He's pretty much played the same formation and system all since the start of last season, it worked in league one as we had the quality to pretty much control every game, now if we aren't in control like the last two games we need a plan B

Agree we should have beaten Derby and Sheffield United.
I dont buy it when he says hes been given the full backing by the board and imo thats the biggest issue.
BBM will go on to manage bigger and better clubs than us. Hes not the problem.

My worry is he hasn’t got a pool of players to bring into to try something different,Stoke will be up for it now after their performance today, just still baffles me how we didn’t sign anyone just can’t see in any way how bbm and the board thought they’d be ok with this squad for the season especially considering we’ve got loads of injuries and belik most probably be suspended now to

exactly a win on tuesday and things will feel a lot better , the pressure on the players to get that first win will be off and we can go up to bolton with a lot more confidence we need to keep the faith
Sat Sep 05, 2026 6:28 pm
Let's forget Tan out , lack of signings etc.
Let's think what we can do. I would drop selech - play Joe colwill in misfield, Rubin or Moylan upfront and pack midfield and only have 1 winger. We are way to open. BBM is talking nonsense we were better 2nd half they were all over us.

Haven't looked at fixtures but we seem to have had a few very winnable games but for one reason or another have failed to get a win... next two games are winnable not easy but winnable if we take our chances that is and bbm tries playing his best side which is more attacking minded than what we've seen so far
Sat Sep 05, 2026 6:46 pm
I think we are good enough to comfortably survive; it's just very loose at the moment.
Sat Sep 05, 2026 6:54 pm
BBMs reluctance to throw Robinson on for 15 to 30 minutes when Salech isn't even getting close to the ball is what I don't understand. Just like I didn't understand having no keeper on the bench most of last season & now we have 2 there.
As I don't tire of saying "I'm getting too old for this shit".

We will bounce back,,, but I’m not sure that BBM will be at the helm when we do…?
Sat Sep 05, 2026 7:22 pm
Good job we not playing swans atm
They are streets ahead of us .
All BBM has got to do is protect the back 4 with a midfield . It’s crazy how simple the game is and not over complicate it .

Bit soon for that isn't it? I think getting rid of him would be very unwise. The squad we have really isn't built to do anything but what we do now, that's not saying he couldn't change formation and give us a bit more protection at the back but this isn't a squad where you can chuck someone like Warnock at it and he'll just make you tough to beat, it's not a physical team, we don't have the height or strength to dominate set plays.

I think getting rid of bbm would be an even bigger disaster than the form we are in
Going on this boards previous we would end up with a long ball dinosaur, can you imagine this squad trying to play long ball football
We have to just take deep breaths accept were in for a bit of a rocky spell and trust bbm to bring us out the other side of it

Everyone who follows city knew we needed signings to be competitive in this league , it’s no surprise as the difference between league 1 and the championship is massive . I believe BBM has enough about him to work it out how we can survive this season , the best thing we can do is keep supporting him and the team and stick together.

A bit soon for thinking that BBM might not be in charge when City do “Bounce back”?
Well I truly hope that City do “Bounce back” by beating Stoke City on Tuesday night,,, believe me, I really do, and go on to progress further up the league,,, but by your own thoughts above, the squad isn’t “built to do anything but what we do now”?

Are you confident that the hierarchy will release funds in January taking into account that transfers normally cost more at that time of the year?
A striker should've been signed in the window that's just closed.

Wow! Isn't it totally bonkers we are talking about strengthening in the January window when the summer window in which we had months to sign players literally closed a few days ago. Absolute madness this club at times.

Will he have the awareness or honesty to realise than he needs to change the plan to enable us to bounce back?
Sat Sep 05, 2026 10:23 pm
Didn't he say that last game??

Nope just said was priority but maybe he'll get someone in near future who knows? Given up on 2nd guessing tan or bbm.

A below par championship squad most tried and failed what did we expect after hardly anything coming in. Lets be realistic here i knew he wouldn't be backed to what he wanted in the window gone.
BBM is a one trick pony in Systems and tactics play wide down the flanks , backward, sideways and repeat. Good for divsion one but it's another level in the championship and you have to change things to suit he does not unless it's the last five minutes and we are losing already by 2 goals. Last season he done it a few times and we nicked points, this season he won't get away doing that the last five minutes as your Vs better players. We don't have better players or game changers spread over the pitch like other teams.
He needs to shuffle formations and tactics for sure or it's going to be hard long winter coming chaps with an under par championship squad sadly as he didn't get what he wanted from above to change games. That's how it is.
