Portsmouth boss

'absolutely furious' after discovery in Cardiff City incident

John Mousinho initially apologised to Cardiff City but now has a very different take after watching footage of the Krystian Bielik incident

Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has revealed he was "absolutely furious" after discovering the apparent full circumstances behind the incident involving a supporter and Cardiff City player Krystian Bielik at Fratton Park.

New video footage later appearing to show the defender making contact with the supporter's neck before being slapped.

UPDATE: Krystian Bielik incident under police investigation

The incident involving the Cardiff City defender and a young Portsmouth supporter at Fratton Park is now being investigated by police and Portsmouth Football Club.

Portsmouth say the matter remains a “safeguarding matter” and have urged people to be cautious about speculation on social media while enquiries continue.

The club added: “The welfare and safeguarding of young people are of paramount importance to Portsmouth Football Club.”

Cardiff have also issued a statement, saying they are aware of a confrontation between “a small section of Portsmouth supporters and Krystian Bielik.”

The Bluebirds say they are “satisfied with the way that match officials dealt with the situation during the game”, adding that “player protection will always be of paramount importance to us.”

Cardiff also say due process will now follow after the referee's report is submitted to the FA, and that it would therefore be inappropriate to comment further.

The FA are aware of the incident and will review the referee’s report before deciding on any next steps.

Police investigate alleged assault on teenage boy during Cardiff City incident

Police have confirmed they are investigating an alleged common assault on a teenage boy during Cardiff City's clash with Portsmouth

Update: 6th September 2026

Krystian Bielik incident investigated by police as
Cardiff City issue statement

Portsmouth confirm club and police are investigating

Cardiff said in a statement they are "satisfied with the way that match officials dealt with the situation", adding: "Player protection will always be of paramount importance to us"

Krystian Bielik latest

The FA are aware of the incident involving Krystian Bielik and a Portsmouth supporter at Fratton Park yesterday.

They will now review referee Ben Speedie’s match report before deciding on the next steps.

Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett has described the incident as “very serious” and believes it will be thoroughly investigated.

Cardiff boss Brian Barry-Murphy claimed Bielik had been slapped in the face during the incident and praised the referee’s handling of it.

Portsmouth boss John Mousinho also apologised to Cardiff, saying: “It wasn't a good incident... we can't be having that.”

Any potential punishment for Bielik will depend on the outcome of the FA's review.

Really not what Cardiff need at the minute.

Bielik pushed the kid or grabbed him first. HUGE ban incoming I think.

angle does look like Bielik may have grabbed the kid first. If he did that could be a retrospective. The knobhead who threw the ball at Perry has no excuse though

Bielik grabbed him by the collar after the youth threw the ball away. Not condoning it, far from it, but have some sympathy for Bielik wanting the ball back immediately

The absolute idiot who deliberately (in my eyes) threw the ball at Ng’s head, was the worse offender, and I think there will be repercussions for all involved. Hopefully, a warning or fine for Bielik, but I see a short ban coming, if the referees report includes the incident

No sympathy from me, you just can't grab the fans if you're a player, it's just common sense. I'm not saying I wouldn't have done the same but I'm not a professional footballer.

I didn't see the guy throw the ball ay Ng as I was writing what I saw from the Bielik incident.

He wasnt booked so perhaps there will be no mention of the incident

Clips all over twitter.

This is going to run.

Easily a 3 game ban, but worse than a red card so 5/6 games could be on the way.

Chris, if he has a fine or warning based on the referees report then one has to ask the question, Why wasn’t he sent off as he was on a yellow.

No need to worry. That's why we signed so many players over the summer so that we could cope with any injuries and suspensions during the season..........oh, wait a minute.

Did he grab kid that threw ball by throat? Thought it was the kid next to him that he grabbed ... and the woman slapped him on head before that... could go from bad to worse for city ? Let's hope common sense prevails but doubt it.

BBM spoke about this in his interview and it sounded like the refs match report will completely back Bielik. He was slapped. BBM didn't seem worried. Portsmouth should receive a heavy fine, unacceptable.

Yep I just heard that. He said exactly what the ref told him and there didn’t seem to be any grey areas at all.

Speaking after the match, Pompey boss Mousinho said: "The referee said that, as Krystian went to get the ball, there was a little bit of a kerfuffle and one of the supporters struck him.
He went to on say he apologised to Cardiff and the players

Your player clearly assaulted what is being reported as a 14yr old kid, by grabbing him around the throat.
The child was then, on the referees advice, ejected from the ground.
Sorry lads, that's f*cking disgusting, and the book needs to be thrown.
Worse than the Cantona incident imo, because this involves a child

Because we all ask somebody their age first? You're being a little ridiculous if you think that this is worse than the Cantona incident.

I agree he should get a ban it was out of order. Worse than Cantona though are you mental

Have a day off mate, Cantona lunged into the crowd with a Kung Fu kick

Let’s wait for the facts to come out and then if the Cardiff player is out of order I’m sure an apology will be given and maybe something done for the kid

Our player may have overreacted and done something that he will regret on hindsight but for whatever reason these people were thrown out, the referee appears to have seen the WHOLE incident and your manager has apologised to our players, a bit strange that don’t you think? They would have seen all of the CCTV footage

He grabbed the guy round the throat for throwing the ball away. I saw him holding his face as if he'd been slapped but there no slap in any replay. If he was hit first it's a different story

There will have been a Police control room and CCTV all over the stadium. They would have seen the whole incident from start to finish. The Portsmouth Manager would have been fully briefed after the game, the Portsmouth manager apologised to our players.

I think everyone needs to take a step back, disappointing to see our fans so quick to condemn one of our own without knowing the full facts
