“ BBM ON WHAT HAPPENED ON TRANSFERS “

Thu Sep 03, 2026 6:19 am

My View then NO Excuses about injuries or Small Squad etc etc

Nearly 4 Months to strengthen.

BBM did say a few times over the weeks we needed a RB, Striker and Winger.

BBM:

"I was not bringing players in for the sake of it"

“We have a group of talented players, I believe they will do well.”

“We had great backing from the Club.”

“I’ve always been honest to our supporters,we had an idea who we wanted to bring in, it was not possible.”

“We have a lot of talented players here.”

"It was not possible" WHY is the question?.

It's pretty bonkers if you ask me. There's hundreds of players out there which would improve our squad. We aren't Real Madrid are we? You offer players good money or better than what they have and join, simple as, even small clubs like Wrexham pull it off. Money talks. I felt positive after the Sheff Utd game thinking, bring 3 players in and we'll be good, let we've done nothing and not only does it effect the squad in terms of quality it's put everyone on a bit of a dower and taken away that feel good factor.

A great honest Question, and that should be answered.

I agree and I don’t buy in to it.

BBM said for weeks we needed strengthening and he had 4 months.

This current Squad for me is not good enough, BBM is the manager and says they will do well.

"No, we had a clear idea who we wanted to bring into the club,” he said. “We never felt anything but great backing from the club, but it wasn't possible."

He was backed but failed to find and convince players to come.

Nah, he was banging on about needing signings before the window closed. Now all of a sudden nobody is good enough to bring in and we have a really good squad? Another yes man to Tan I’m afraid. He’s a good manager though. He’ll be gone by January.

Those are the words he said, but does not convey the abject defeat in his voice and body language.

Watch the actual clips - he is destroyed.

I cannot believe this is down to BBM he may have missed choice 1 for any reason the player may not have wanted to join cardiff like the lad who went to boro who was our target, but surly he had more than 1 player on the list in that position I am sure it's down to them at the top not BBM,he wants to succeed here not fail.

I'm not convinced the manager has been up front with the fans over the support he has over transfers.
Not sure if Mr Tan has brainwashed him in the summer to a certain extent, but to suggest to us we will be recruiting more players to strengthen the squad over the last week or two and just to recruit one centre back out of injury desperation doesn't add up.
If the manager, or indeed, the club was serious about progressing, we would have recruited three or four quality players throughout the summer and not just offer us crumbs of hope approaching the deadline day, which didn't materialise.

For me, this season is now all about survival in the Championship.
We have a squad that can compete, but not to win matches regularly.
Originally, I was hoping for a top half finish. However, with this thin squad and the inevitable injuries to come, I have lowered my expectations.

In other words he screwed up.... as I said previously he didn't have a plan B for whatever reason he couldn't get in who he wanted so just left it at that? To think the youngsters will be sufficient is really poor management this is the championship not an academy league!

Want an electrician for a £50 job is not the same as being given one for £20 that you didn't want and he's shit at his job.

Money talks and when a manager says he wants certain players which he said last night and has said for months and didn't get them, then says they need to be the right player or players he wants. Not ones forced on him from them above. It's not rocket science to work out what's gone on his body language tells me everything. But let's blame the manager already after all he's the one buying and paying for them.

Is he supposed to come out and say the morons above have not backed me to what players I wanted and have done for months. I mean come on people. If you think any manager does not want better players of his choice not the idiots above im lost for words :banghead:

St
Your missing out the context of what he as said previously regarding players it's basically the same he wanted certain type players couldn't get them (for whatever reason) and he wasn't prepared to look elsewhere that is clear by his words ... you cannot just dismiss his role in not getting players and simply say hes covering up for board thats being disingenuous to him
.... maybe hes to academy oriented because he seems to think our youngsters below 1st team are good enough and is one of reasons he didn't deviate from his targets? He maybe right but not in a 42 game championship season!

So why couldn't he get the players he wanted them does he have to chip in for them . It's totally baffling. We are 4 games in for f**k sake and we got people blaming him for not being backed.

If we lose game after game over and over with him playing the same thing over and over without changing I'd get it with this under par championship squad but we are 4 games in .

Our fan bases is mad and would be asking for a Sacking if we lost a cup game with 11 x 16 year olds

Re: “ BBM ON WHAT HAPPENED ON TRANSFERS “

Thu Sep 03, 2026 10:34 am

I'm sorry but i don't believe this for one minute, BBM has had well over 4 months to realise what was going to be needed when we stepped to a better quality league, christ a blind man could have told you we needed at least a DM, a winger with pace, RB cover and another striker to fight it out with Salech. There's not a team in Europe that sometimes miss out on their No 1 target that's why managers give a 1st choice, 2nd choice etc, so for BBM to make out that there were no players out there to improve this squad (even if 1st choice went else where) is for the birds.

Re: “ BBM ON WHAT HAPPENED ON TRANSFERS “

Thu Sep 03, 2026 10:51 am

I believe this happened at league one and I'm sure the club tried to get him to sign players but he always said quality over quantity he likes using a small squad and I'm not in the know just going by what bbm has stated a few times now

Yes its baffling why he couldn't get in players he wanted but this is footballers we are talking about! Didn't one turn us down? Think point is he doesn't appear to have a plan B several people have commented on this ..... he wanted certainly players he didn't get some (he got two in he wanted ) so missed out basically on 3 maybe 4 thats not a lot but in the context of our squad it is a big deal ... it boils down to do you believe bbm or not? Evidence of what he has previously said leans to he caused the lack of sighnings due to his pragmatism... what was tan or kens involvement in sighnings behond finances is open to conjecture based on previous problems not on facts

Re: “ BBM ON WHAT HAPPENED ON TRANSFERS “

Teams that play nice football can also get relegated.

We are favourites for the drop, his targets might be unrealistic and he’s disappointed we didn’t get what he wanted, but the fact he says they tried suggest the club at least tried to sign what he wanted.

There’s maybe 5 teams less appealing to a player than us in the championship, so without getting a passionate footballer in who wants to be part of a changing team, he can’t really just expect us to massively over pay and then under value our own players just to get them in the door.

I’m glad we didn’t knee jerk react and get any man and his dog in on the deadline

Re: “ BBM ON WHAT HAPPENED ON TRANSFERS “

Didn’t Ken choo say at a fans meeting a few weeks back that we should promote from within and stuff?but for me it’s all well and good saying that but some of these youngsters aren’t ready for Championship football,if I was the club and bbm I’d be looking at one or 2 free agents to get us till January or the end of the season

There is absolutely no point in BBM giving interviews; so many don't believe them due to your confirmation bias that everything is down to Tan and the regime.

My view of BBM is that he was willing to give the chosen ones who stayed a season to prove they are up to it; he believes in them and was only going to recruit those who are visibly a step up. Those he doesn't think are there left the club.

We are on everyone's relegation-contenders list, so convincing players better than Robertson, Salech, or Ashford was going to be difficult. You could easily be in L1 with a 50% salary reduction this time next season.....That's a hard sell.

Put everything you believe in football into the bin; BBM is doing it differently. IMO, we have to strap in and go for the three-season ride, as i can't see Tan ever sacking him or him walking away.

You make some fair points but I don't agree that Tan won't ever sack him.

Tan will definitely be expecting a promotion push this season - that's the way he works. He may possibly accept a season on the edge of the play-offs but if we have a season flirting with relegation (especially if Tan was willing to fund signings that BBM chose not to make) then I think Tan will not hesitate to pull the trigger.

Found another manager like bbm? Iraola at Liverpool he is several players short after the window closed! He said he could have got some in but chose quality over quantity... and he'll live by his policy. sounds just like what bbm did.
