The lack of new players won’t be seen immediately it will be

Wed Sep 02, 2026 11:31 am

The lack of new players won’t be seen immediately it will be felt deep in the season when injuries, lack of form and possibly suspensions will kick in.

Exactly. This is what some on here are not seeing. They’re not looking past the starting 11. We didn’t need or want a new starting 11 we just wanted strength in depth. Anyone with a bit of foresight can see what’s going to happen deeper into the season. Baffles how people are happy with how we’ve done our business.

Spot on

We are 1 player down from the squad of last season and are now playing in a higher level league

How people can see this as positive I'll never understand

And I don't believe a word from Glen Williams mouth about it just being down to bbm being picky and if that was true then bbm must be very naive

Just like it was last season.

"BBM wants a small squad so now he has to deliver". He did then and he'll easily keep us away from the bottom three this season.

It's not the same as last season though is it?

This is a higher level and we have a smaller squad than last season

Plus (and I know this is no ones fault) we have 3 cbs all out injured

I'm happy with our first team but we don't even have all of them available at the minute because of the injuries

So we are already behind where we were last season and this is the championship not league one

Didn't expect anymore permanent signings but I'm sure bbm could have found a loan from his friends at man city to help this season

We don't have less first team players, it's the same.

The only injuries are CBs. Hearing that one of them will be back tonight or Saturday.

Yes it's a higher level but it's less games because no Vertu Trophy and don't enter the FA Cup until January instead of November.

More subs but last season we didn't have a goalkeeper on the bench to fit more outfield players.

You look at the starting 11 say Vs sheff utd. Yes we played them off the park but still drew.

Then I look at who was on the bench maybe 3 of them can perform at championships level but are not better than what's on the pitch I'd say. The would have to show up weekly if injuries come that's where I feel we will suffer . We all know we got some center backs out who will be back then that bench will look a touch better.

If we had recruited two or three more the bench would have been suited more for the championship as I'd assume them already playing weekly whoever we they are would be on the bench as better come in.

Let's just hope BBM can get a tune out of what he's got should the inevitable injuries happen and when we got say two or three players who are youngers on there then maybe some at the club will wake up and see what was needed. I'm totally baffled at the transfer window like most.

What I will say is BBM stock value will go up should we climb the league with results and we all want to do well but then he will move on I have no doubt for a proper go at what he wants to do and bring in elsewhere. Now on the other hand if it fails then we all know want goes at the club sadly even if it wasn't his fault in my opinion ( backing has let him down ).

There will be ups and downs this season irrelevant who we play or who play, I've no doubt about that but I think we have missed the boat to push on after last seasons high and that's why most of us are pissed off I'm sure. Most can see we needed a decent striker and winger minimum in my opinion. Robertson can play at 6 but he's nothing like wintle who we let go....

We are three games in only time will tell but we all support what's on the pitch eitherway. Results keeps the wolves from the door in football today that's the bottom line not what's on the pitch and how much they are worth :bluescarf:

Maybe the same number of players but not the same position wise

Ashford was a sub winger last season and now he is playing in rubins position because rubin has had to play deeper because we haven't replaced wintle and we had the luxury of having kellyman to cover salech and the other wing when needed

I don't feel we have that luxury now because who is there to come off the bench and actually have an impact on the game or who do we have to fill in for Salech if he needs a rest or gets injured

Like I said I didn't expect anymore permanent signings but surely a loan could have been arranged

We could have got an attacking winger similar to kellyman but if seems like it's all riding on Davies to have a breakthrough this season coz Robinson definitely isn't fancied by bbm otherwise he would have started the games salech missed last season

I think everyone needs to calm down now and let’s see what happens.Ivwould have liked more signings but it’s not to be.Agree with the original post regarding injuries suspensions and so on later in the season.
We have got quite a versatile squad with many players who can cover another position, not ideal but useful.
The windows shut and the games go on. :bluescarf:
Come on City :bluescarf:

If we get to January in good shape and in a decent position maybe that is when we will do a decent bit of business, we just need luck on our side when it comes to injuries and suspensions

Agree with this and for me it could be a problem.

Saying that, all clubs get injuries and some more than others. We’ve got a lot of players who can adapt and play in different positions so I’m hoping we’ll be ok.

It’s a big worry

As this is not League 1

This is a major league and we need strength and back up in our squad, quality back up.

Totally agree we needed an extra couple of bodies in last night, I don't see how anyone can disagree on that

100% correct but now we need to get on with it and stop the moaning and back biting.

I’ve seen a lot, lot worse and I’d prefer this to the Cornelius/Madine type of bollocks in the past.

Think it would be the opposite. If we are looking mid table then Tan would think there’s no need to spend.

Mid table in January this season would put us not far off 8th so tan might decide to gamble and open the purse strings a little

It’s being seen tonight , we are looking toothless up front

Re: The lack of new players won’t be seen immediately it wil

We leak goals and nothing up front. The he ratio of opportunities to goals is very low.

We all knew a 6, wingers and striker were needed, with the left back.

We new that in May…..

Being seen tonight, so many players completely off it tonight and nothing on the bench to replace them with.

Rubin
Salech
Robertson
Tanner

All awful

To be honest, the lack of new players HAS been seen immediately - in fact in the first 20 mins tonight.

It will also continue to get worse deep into the season, probably starting next Saturday.

With no one pushing to take their shirt it’s not going to challenge them to improve either.
