A forum for all things Cardiff City

Yesterday, like many possession based teams we totally dominated, but didn’t come away with the 3 points. I used to love it under Warnock, when possession wise we were battered by teams who “play the right way”, but we would rob the bank with a smash and grab win. The opposition manager would come out and whine, making excuses like “it’s cause of the way Cardiff play” Gary monk especially. It was great. But yesterday, I felt the boot on the other foot. My lad complained about the stalemate of the second half compared to the first, my response, “it’s not our fault, it was the way Sheffield played for the draw!”

Teams do tend to try and hit us on the counter now just like Warnock did with us! But we suffered terrible football for far too long! I got sick of watching us play. This new style is a breathe of fresh air. Not only are we dominating possession but we are creating chances. It’s exciting. On another day we would have battered sheff utd on the scoreboard.

I love this style. Also we know its not a "this season" thing. We have been building it and entrenching it with the squad for over a year now. Long may it continue because over time we WILL get the results. We are playing good football with skilled talented and hard working players. They will evolve adapt and improve. A one dimemsional direct approach will win games but it is less predictable. We force teams to HAVE to go backs to the wall. We need to teak no overhaul. Long may this style continue.

When everything comes together with the way we play, it's a joy to watch. It was like that on Saturday, other than the two mistakes early on and not getting a winner. I love watching it.
I have said in the past that I'm not that bothered about results in the first 5-6 games. You just want to see signs that the performances will be good enough. Obviously great if you get results too during that time. I think we were better at Derby than against Wrexham and on Saturday we were better again - I think we'll continue to get better and personally I have no fear that we'll get relegated. The wins will come.
Of course there will be days when it doesn't work, such as Burton at home last season which was incredibly frustrating. But we know there will be ups and downs this season as a promoted team.
What also has to be remembered is most of this team have had a year playing like this and are therefore now used to it. They are getting better and better at it all the time and crucially, they enjoy it too. Also seems that Moylan and Bielik have seamlessly fitted into this style of play.

you only have to see how comfortable and unflustered they get dealing with the ball even under an aggressive heavy press. They dont panic and some how magically knock it about and all of a sudden are past 3 opposition players.

Several times we were in tight situation but after a clever flick or clever pass we got out of situation and started to attack... when tried that before it didn't work so shows improvement of movement since last season

So, so, much better than the days of Ben Turner hoofing the ball aimlessly up field every time he had it at his feet!

We are scoring enough goals to win the games; we just need the defenders back and used to playing together. Bielik is going to help with attacking and defending in both boxes from set plays and corners.

We need a top striker we much better movement than Salech, Salech is a target man and in my opinion that is not what we need.

I love the style of football now. At times it's a joy to watch
Waenock ball did ok but was very boring after the first 5 games of that season when the style just went

Our players are very comfortable with the ball even in right spaces and are a joy to watch. I enjoyed the success Neil Warnock brought us - but this is much better to watch.

I remember when we played “warnock ball” we were almost always out shooting the opposition. The core of it was to get the ball forward and play football in the final 3rd, and to sacrifice possession for a chance at goal.
It’s nice to see we are shooting more this season so far, as part of my biggest criticism last year was we didn’t have a pop enough.
