“ Cardiff City could Receive up to £500,000 “

Cardiff City:

We can confirm that an agreement has been reached for the transfer of 16 year old Axel Donczew to Arsenal.

Donczew chose to leave Cardiff City, it was his and his families decision.

Cardiff will receive a down payment of £250,000 and the Transfer could eventually reach £500,000

ARSENAL FC:

We’re delighted to announce the signing of 16-year-old midfielder Axel Donczew.

The young Welshman joins us from Cardiff City as part of our first-year scholarship intake.


The player has also signed a pre-contract agreement that will lead to him signing professional terms with us.

Our new midfielder made history last season when he made his professional debut for the Bluebirds aged just 15 years and 234 days, making him the youngest player in Cardiff's history as he appeared in a Welsh derby against Newport in the EFL Trophy.


Axel has spent his whole career with Cardiff so far, and has represented Wales at under-15s and under-16s levels, and is also eligible to represent Poland at international level.

With a mix of youth and international experience under his belt, Axel moves to north London looking to continue his development at the Sobha Realty Training Centre.

I personally hope he makes it at Arsenal but it will be so tough. These top clubs have so much young talent and it's so competitive to not only get into the youth line-ups but also to get loans.

Cardiff City FC:

Cardiff say the club offered terms for Donczew to continue his development with the Bluebirds and made efforts to retain the player, but said he "opted to pursue a move away from the Welsh capital".


Donczew has also signed a pre-contract agreement with Arsenal, a move the north London club say will "lead to him signing professional terms with us".


The Bluebirds academy product has played for Wales at youth level, though he is also eligible to play for Poland.
Donczew was just 15 years and 234 days old when he came on as a substitute in Cardiff's EFL Trophy game against Newport County.

He made a second first-team appearance for Cardiff last December, featuring as a substitute in an EFL Trophy defeat by Wimbledon.

What I don't understand is how can other clubs give a "pre professional" contract agreement and we didn't if that is the case surely we would be given alot more money. Although it's no suprise really he's gone. No doubt his family got offered a car, holiday and so on, it goes on at bigger clubs still with brown envelopes im sure

I’ve been told numerous times Clubs like Arsenal give the parents a big pay off.

What I don't understand is how can other clubs give a "pre professional" contract agreement and we didn't if that is the case surely we would be given alot more money. They get well looked after.

The rules around this stink. Only suits the big teams who can treat these players as disposable income

He will be on loan to Stevenage or something in a couple of years and maybe make it in the lower leagues..

If he stayed here he would have made the first team this season but money talks I guess.

Annis, it’s fine in for years and not just in football. Rugby (Union) and other ‘amateur’ sports were the same. A new car, new house, better job, brown envelope, is a big deal to the average man, whilst it’s a drop in the ocean to the money clubs

This wouldn’t be so bad if when clubs do it, there’s a mandatory sell on fee. Instead, if he becomes a top championship player and ends up going for £10m it will all go to Arsenal to help them balance their books, where a percentage fee should have to go to Cardiff like it likely would if there was a genuine sale.

Let’s face it, we don’t have Arsenals facilities and I can’t see why anyone would blame the boy to make the move.

I for one hope he does well
