Chris Wilder: Credit to Cardiff, they deserved to win

Sat Aug 29, 2026 4:36 pm

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder:

"We were fortunate. I think they were the better team. We have to move on.

"We never really committed to the press, never dealt with their forward play, never dealt with their runs by their No.8s and I think Brian will be disappointed he's not got the win.

"Their left winger caused Jammo (Jamal Baptiste) all sorts of problems. We never really dealt with their wingers.

"Good players never turn the ball over and they never turned the ball over.

"When you're playing a well-coached team, the ball comes back at you with interest.

"You've got to give the opposition credit. Brian will say they played really well, they did. Whether that's us turning the ball over and not dealing tactically with things we knew were coming.

"How about we give them credit for a really good performance from Brian and his team."

I think him and BBM are friends but fair play to him with those comments. We were the better team.

He's right of course - we were the better team.

Have to start turning the good performances into three points though, especially at home.

In this division it'll be our home form which will decide what type of season we'll have.

Hopefully the wins will come

Yeah I think Wilder was a bit of a mentor to BBM when he was younger.

But still good comments straight after the game, as you say.

More honest than that Wrexham bosses assessment of the game post match, that's for sure.

Fair play to Wilder and also refreshing to hear an honest summary straight after, a welcome change and all credit to him.

watched the interview last night and he's right in every way. Which I'd prefer off a manager no bullshit talk after 2 shots in one game and they are bigging up the many chances they had or how they should of won even if they been battered then 90% of a game , we have had them managers after games  When he says they can play better and come out with nothing how true is that but same applies for every team :bluescarf:

Largely honest from him. Tactically omitted the fact he sent his team out to play for the draw from half time.

At one point they were moving up from a back line of 6, it was very negative and given their first 2 games were 0-0 I’d already be getting fed up if I was a fan.
