Time will tell if that is what it takes but I don't think throwing money at it helps much when there are 15 new players who will take time to gel, if they ever do, and it could well be too late by then.

They've probably looked at what Sunderland did last season.

Practically changed their whole team and will soon be playing in the San Siro.

Huge gamble by them but gambles do sometimes come off.

They've probably got more chance of staying up by spending that sort of money than if they spent £20m.

That's a big risk, if they come down, they will be in trouble for years.
I look at what Cardiff are doing on paper we look healthy.

I wonder what would have happened if we'd spent much more than we did in our two flying visits to the PL?

Would we now be an established PL team paying multi million pound fees for players like Palace, Brighton and Bournemouth (all contemporaries of our in the not too distant past) or would we be worse than we are now, where it seems that somehow, depite two lots of Premier League money and two lots of parachute payments we remain hugely in debt and appear to not have a pot to piss in.

I would argue we did spend relatively big, especially with Malky.

Murphy, Medel, Cornelius, Caulker etc all came in for big money.

Warnock spent a lot of money too.

Nowhere near what Ipswich and Sunderland did but we did spend a lot.

The problem was we didn't sign the right players and that was down to the managers. Since then the board took more control over transfers until BBM came in.

I would agree that Malky did spend a lot of money. In fact if I remember rightly for a while we were one of the highest spending teams in the PL that season but again you're right, the players were poor quality. Ole also wasted a fortune when we got relegated although he did bring in Bruno Manga and Sean Morrison.

However I don't think Warnock spent big money in the summer after promotion. I remember Talksport slagging the club (nothing new there!) for spending so little over the summer and saying that they should be spending more of the money to try to stay in the Premier League. The accusation was that the club just wanted the money and were resigned to relegation, hoping to then come back up stronger and "do a Burnley".

Of course there was then the Sala tragedy when Warnock realised we needed goals to have a chance of staying up.

Like Ole, Warnock then squandered millions on poor quality when we got relegated.

I remeber when villa went up from the championship spent a fortune to stay up, they would have been right in the mire and only a few points off relegation but they took the gamble and are still there.
