“ 23rd Minute Applause for Martin Barnes “ :bluebird:
:bluescarf:

Martin was a Cardiff City supporter his entire life. Through the highs and the lows, from the days in Division Four to travelling the length and breadth of the country following the Bluebirds, and even abroad, Cardiff City was a huge part of who he was.

He was a proud shareholder of the club, but his connection to Cardiff went far beyond football. His very first date with his wife, Helen, was at a Cardiff City match, and almost 50 years of marriage later, the club was still such a huge part of their family life.

Martin always said there were two things he loved more than anything — his family and Cardiff City.

Following City wasn’t only about the football for Martin. It gave him friendships that lasted a lifetime. Some of the people he met through supporting Cardiff became his closest friends, sharing decades of home games, away trips, stories and memories together.

One of those friendships was with Annis Abraham, a friendship spanning more than 40 years, all beginning through their shared love of Cardiff City. That probably says everything about what this club and its supporters meant to Martin — it wasn’t just a football club, it became part of his life and part of his family.

Sadly, Martin passed away on 18th July, just five days before his 71st birthday.

Cardiff City are remembering Martin at the match, and his family would be incredibly grateful if fellow Bluebirds could join in with a round of applause in the 23rd minute, marking his birthday on 23rd July.

For a man who spent a lifetime following the Bluebirds, having the Cardiff City faithful come together and remember him would mean more to his family than words could ever say.

Once a Bluebird, always a Bluebird. :bluebird: :bluescarf:

Rest easy, Martin.
