Cup game or not, very disappointed tonight.
We know we have defensive problems and no way am I going to criticise a 15 year old.
But it's the other bits that bothered me more. We had loads of the ball but can anyone remember a time we looked like scoring? I can't.
Wingers were really poor. People were having a go at Robinson in the match thread but he didn't really have anything to go at.
So without doubt a disappointing evening and the better team won.
Only slight positive was Moylan was good again when he came on.
Now we have to bounce back with a better performance on Saturday. If it was a choice between winning on Saturday or winning tonight, I'd definitely choose Saturday.

Issac willock and kapakio how bad were they..
Tue Aug 25, 2026 7:54 pm
It's only a shitty cup game anyway but we did score I guess.. I'd have rather seen more youngsters than just the 15 year old and first team to be honest. 2nd best all night without any center halfs but they done a job on us with there 2nd string more or less. Although I'm praying we get 3 or 4 in minimum before the window shuts
We go again

I agree. Kpackio has to be dropped and Willock incredibly poor on everything.

Obviously when I said we didn't look like scoring, I posted this before Salech scored.
But the points still stand.

To be honest our injuries have now been a few weeks and each day seems to get worse why? We haven't signed a centre half is beyond me last season if we signed a striker when salech was injured we would of won the title without doubt very disappointed in the board and Murphy who should be crying out for help

Wingers were very poor Robinson had nothing

I think he is crying out for help when a manager has to play full backs at center half and then put 2 goalkeepers on the bench the weekend gone that should tell them above really although he can only say what he can say to the media. Others think differently to this though.

The small sqaud thing only works if you have a close-range ability... We have a decent core, but its not very deep
I can't remember the last time I thought Robinson and Davies had good games. Willock and Tanner are hit or miss.
Tue Aug 25, 2026 8:07 pm
Salech showed again give him the ball in area and hes dangerous and good chance to score..... surely bbm must realise fancy possession around area doesn't get you goals .... Saturday was same protective football with little attempt to score ..tonight was same until salech Moyland came on but out wide let us down badly all night. There's not a lot wrong but tactics must be more flexible and not change just because we are losing .

You're probably the only person on the planet who thinks we would have won the title if we'd signed a replacement for Salech. Even without him we finished as the leagues top scorers. And then there's the small matter of finishing 12 points behind Lincoln, who were worthy champions.

Now looking forward to Saturday forget this game with all these newbies coming in it should be a cracker of a game .

Definitely. we couldn't stop scoring after his injury, if anything was proved it was that the decision was 100% correct.

I think, unfortunately, we are still carrying players from our relegation squad who are among our highest earners but simply aren't at the level we need.
I thought Willock, Turnbull and Robinson were really poor, and you'd imagine they would all be among our top five earners.
I'm desperate for Davies to do well after all his bad luck with injuries, but I'd have to include him among the disappointing performances as well.
We are a very good team, and you could see that once we made the changes, we completely dominated the remainder of the match. Our weakness is the depth of the squad. At the moment, these players represent a noticeable drop-off in performance and influence on games.
Our current wing options of Willock, Davies and Tanner simply aren't at the level required for the Championship, and we're desperate for reinforcements in that area.
I know we were counting on Kellyman, but for me, this is an even bigger priority than CB.
There were plenty of positives. Salech scoring again, Joe Colwill putting in a great all-round performance, and Robertson doing an excellent job, even when asked to play at CB.
Rubin changed the game again, and he looks in brilliant form.
We have the nucleus of a fantastic squad, and that's without Fish and Lawlor to come back in.
In summary, sign the 3/4 key players we need and I think we'll have an excellent season. If we don't, then unfortunately, despite all the fantastic potential in this squad, the Championship is a gruelling league and I fear we'll eventually run out of steam.

Some fair points there.
I'm not a huge fan of Turnbull, I think he's our worst midfielder. But I actually thought he was alright tonight. A few misplaced passes but was a bit more forward thinking tonight. Not saying he was brilliant, but a bit better - did well at Derby too.

Expecting a few signings before the weekend hope BBM HAS GOT THEM LINED UP WE NEED A BIGGER SQUAD IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP OVER TO YOU BBM !!!
Tue Aug 25, 2026 8:47 pm
I thought his best game for us was against Chelsea, when he was absolutely brilliant. The problem is that, on paper, our highest earners should also be our star players.
Imagine the damage BBM could do with that level of additional salary available to him.
A lot of these players are now in the final year of their contracts — Chambers, Robinson, Willock and Turnbull. They’re going to have to have huge seasons to earn new deals.
If you look at how we didn’t offer Wintle a new contract after he won Player of the Year, I think our days of offering big wages to experienced Championship players are probably over.

I struggle to be disappointed by performance when the squad is so threadbare. As highlighted by so many, so frequently.. we’re threadbare. The key difference this year is the quality of opposition we’re going to face week in week out. Appreciating this was a cup game, that Norwich side weren’t far off being full strength.

All our injury problems are in defence, that's why I haven't criticised the defenders.
My criticism is that we created very little.

The problem lies in pre season when if you don't plan for the next step up - you will be found out .
We should have players in certain positions to come in for these sort of games - We do not .
Not just at CB - For the record ...

We were 12 points ahead of Lincoln at one point also!

Derby and Wrexham both got at us from the beginning of both half's
Have sides sussed us out after two games already
Teams learn other teams weak points and take advantage ,same as last year Lincoln put two players on our wingers then every side did it

And neither beat us. They were also two teams who only just missed out on the play-offs last season.

Didn't think we were that bad tbh.
Seen us play worse in 90% of our games under Riza and co.

Every team in the league is going to use that tactic (we'll hammer whoever doesn't) as they did last season. What BBM is doing isn't new Man City have been playing it forever and everyone knows how to counter it, doing that is easier said than done. It's also why the we need a pacey winger stuff drives me bonkers. We are set up this way Mendez-Laing wouldn't be getting anymore joy in this system we are camped in the opposite half with the wingers doubled up on I don't care how fast you are if the space isn't there, it isn't there
Wed Aug 26, 2026 4:15 pm
Obviously, the defence was the problem, and that's due to injuries; we looked decent when Colwill, Moylan and Ashford came on. It's fine, though the extra games would have caused more injuries and stretched the squad further. We just need to get another three or four in and push on.

And the ‘
Jacks’ are living proof of that statement!
Slated our appearance in the Final but changed their tune faster than a politician when they got there (and won) a couple of seasons later!
I want to win every game we play in, so I agree with the line-up BBM put out under the circumstances, but I agree the Championship has to be our priority this season
