Your favourite squad & manager since 2000?

I've been comparing this squad with others in our recent history, and for me, I think it's probably my favourite. That's largely down to the amount of homegrown talent representing the different areas of our fanbase, along with a manager who really gets us as fans.

The only one that comes close for me is the Dave Jones 2010/11 mavericks. Although they folded in the end, that team was packed with so many players who could change a game at any point.

It'd be interesting to hear other people's opinions.

I've put Alan Cork and Lennie Lawrence together, as Lennie came in and finished the job.

Cork/Lennie – Double promotion
Welsh internationals like Earnie and Gabbidon, alongside club legends like Kav and Leggy. A team with a real Cardiff identity.

Dave Jones – Cup finals and the almost history-makers
Two cup final defeats and a few painful near-misses, but what a collection of players. Chops, Ross McCormack, Bothroyd, Super Kev and, of course, our introduction to Whitts.

Malky's Machines – The ultimate consistent performers

A Championship tittle & League cup final
Probably the best all-round team, with very few weaknesses. They'd break teams down with a relentless high tempo and a huge threat from set pieces.

Fraizer Campbell, Gunnarsson, Turner and Marshall, alongside Hudson, Whitts and Super Kev from previous eras.

Neil Warnock – No-nonsense legends
Bamba, Morrison, Hoilett, Manga, Méndez-Laing, Zohore and Paterson.

Every one of those teams had a completely different identity, which is probably what makes the comparison so interesting.

Dave Jones for me for entertaining football although if he had some of the money others spent on that list who knows where we could of gone

On a footballing level, I loved what Dave Jones brought to the Bluebirds, so my vote goes to him, although any of those could be chosen for different reasons

Alan Cork and Lennie Lawrence started the ball rolling under Sam and deserve big credit for the parts they played. Not quite on the level of the three (not including BBM) below but ‘key’ in our development as a club

Dave Jones brought in players I never thought we’d see at our place and had a cavalier style that excited the crowds. He also took us to our third FA Cup Final, and close to the Premier League dream

Malky Mackay took us to the Premier League and almost orchestrated a win over the mighty Liverpool in the League Cup Final. What he did for our club was immense, but sadly he caused his own issues in the end, and his ‘sacking’ was the catalyst to our relegation that season

Neil Warnock was immense as a motivator and a manager, and he brought our support-base back together (in the main) after a few torturous years. His achievement of promotion to the Premier League with an effectively efficient squad, was arguably the greatest achievement at our club in the modern (post Sam’s arrival) era. Sadly, I’m with Ned on the ‘he has questions that should be addressed’ front, too

Brian Barry Murphy (BBM) has been a breath of fresh air since his arrival at the CCS. He’s done what most dreamed of but somewhat feared at the same time, by bringing in the club’s youngsters and supplementing them with quality incomings, and so far it’s worked. But it is way too early to be judging him with those listed above; way too early! However, it is my sincere hope that he develops his squad and gets us to the heights most of us desire. At that point, he would certainly be in the reckoning

In terms of success, you have to put Warnock and Malky at the top. People know my issues with Warnock and I know people have issues with Malky for obvious reasons, but they are the ones who took us to the Premier League.

I think it's too early for BBM. Love what he's doing at the club and I hope he stays for years, so he gets the opportunity to take us back to the top tier (not a realistic thing this season). I do believe if he stays for a while then he will be one of our best.

But for me, it's Dave Jones. He should have got us promoted but the football was entertaining for a long time and what a team we had for this level. If he'd have got us over the line, I think he'd have been looked back on as a great of the club.
