I am disappointed with BBM if true?

Thu Aug 20, 2026 3:35 pm

Glen Williams is reporting that BBM is looking to sign a CB.

Personally I don't agree and am disappointed with BBM.

I am a huge fan of his and very rarely criticise him but he always says he won't make knee jerk reactions in the transfer market and that's what this looks like.

Four CBs are enough, we don't need any more.

We got 1 fit CB. Fish out for 3 months, Lawlor has a bad injury record. Chambers is aging annd injury prone and Osho our only fit CB was strapped up after Wrexham game? I’d say we need a loan for cover.

Yeah at the moment, but signing another means we will have 5 CBs which is too many.

I hate knee jerk reactions and that's what this feels like.

Chambers is injury prone, fish is out for months, lawlor no timescale and no pre season behind him and osho now has a knock, we 100% need a new centre back even if it is a loan until January when everyone should be fit.

We may have all 4 out come saturday so I have no problem signing a quality centre back who will compete with the others .
Will fish is out for 3 months and may relapse in training so prudent to bring in a replacement

I'm not he knows what he needs!

Lawlor and Chambers are injury prone, Osho is mistake prone and Fish is out for probably till Christmas, of course we need cover.

It's not knee jerk its urgently needed.

I agree four fit centre-backs should be enough, but “fit” is the key word. BBM will have medical information we don’t, and this suggests our first choices may not be returning anytime soon. Monday also showed that the patchwork defence didn’t work.

My bigger frustration is that this business should have been completed earlier. Leaving it this late risks paying over the odds or settling for whoever remains available, rather than signing someone with the quality to progress us.

Wrexham should have scored several against us and it's been clear since our relegation season our current centre backs are nowhere near good enough. Osho has already scored 1 own goal and played Moore onside. Every time Wrexham hit a direct long ball, we struggled.

I think Lawlor is our only centre back capable of consistently performing well at this level. I also trust Bagan and NG at centre back ahead of Osho, Chambers or Fish.

Let's not forget without Lawlor in the team last season, we conceded an average of 1.6 goals per game at League 1 level. That can easily rise to an average of 2 goals per game in the Championship, meaning we may concede over 90 goals and get relegated.

It's clear we need to significantly improve our centre backs, so I highly welcome the news BBM is trying to bring one in. Personally, I think we need to bring 2 in.

If itvis a loan signing until Jan I think it is a wise move with Fish out until at least December and no return date for Lawlor Can’t see the issue at all

I agree with him if true. Before the end of last season after we were more or less up most fans (myself included) thought that we needed more quality at CB for the championship and now we are down to just about two fit CB's i don't think he has much choice, we also conceaded quite a few goals in league 1. Personally i still think we need a CB, a winger with pace, a striker and a holding midfielder but let's see what happens.

Seriously? You're disappointed in BBM because Glen Williams reports something that may or may not be true? What happened to trusting BBM to know what he wants?

It just feels like a knee jerk reaction, which is something he has said since day one that he wouldn't do.

I am not sure if it is true but we have no fit centre backs at the moment -Osho is looking as if he may be out -so it makes sense to at least get someone in short term if possible.

Glen Williams is saying that because he's looked on the board this afternoon and seen the million threads about us needing a CB. BBM gave a statement saying pretty much the exact opposite

Fish needs to be covered out till xmas probably, and I am sure there is a better cb than chambers he is on his last legs give me a quality cb over chambers any day

Re: I am disappointed with BBM if true?

I think it would be totally unwise if he didnt get cover. Way too many variables with our 4 first choice CBs. Like many have said even a short term loan until January only gives us the 4 upto December. Besides that some of Chambers best games were in midfield. He can cover there.

Re: I am disappointed with BBM if true?

Thu Aug 20, 2026 5:11 pm

We’ve got 4 CB’s. All are injured, one out for a minimum 3 months, and no one on here knows how serious the others are. If we had 4 keepers and all 4 injured we’d be desperate for him sign cover.
All he’s got to do if needed is sign a loan player until end December.

What is knee jerk about it?
Has he ever come out and said I’m definitely not signing a CB we have what we need ?

Fish is out for 3 months , if lawlor is out for similar a short term loan until January makes sense as 3 months takes us to November then by the time they are match fit thats mid December which would be nearly the end of the loan

Chambers is on the wrong side now on the downward slide playing in the championship is a step up from league 1 on fitness alone,
sadly chambers speed was clear to see last season solid but slow

What a strange post from Worcester?

Has someone hacked his account?

Fish out for months
Lawlor out for an unknown period
Chambers dreadful at centre back last time we were in the Championship
Osho on crutches after Monday

BBM would be negligent if he didn't bring in a CB!

But don't worry Worcester - at the pace our transfers go we may get round to finding a new CB by the season after next.

The money we have available for transfers, as I'm sure will become clear to people by September.

I do question, as I do many times, the ambition of the board. Surely we don't want a repeat of 2 seasons ago??

I'm of this view too. The transfer budget is obviously very tight and whoever we bring in is a trade off. I don't agree with you in regards to being disappointed with BBM let him cook, if ride it out too but if he wants to bring a defender in leave him. Some of the views I've seen today are on another planet though we've come up from league one we aren't competing with Wolves for Jordan James or West Ham for their loan moves. We've got the budget of a bottom half championship club.

Not every reaction is a knee jerk reaction. Determining the likely hood of playing half a season with one fit CB(no return date set for Lawlor and Chambers, both having carried injuries before), and taking a measured approach to bring additional bodies into the squad to cover the position is sensible in my opinion
