BBM looking at making City player as one of our main Striker

Thu Aug 20, 2026 10:41 am

THIS WORRIES ME BIG TIME ITS THE CHAMPIONSHIP:

When Ken Choo was asked about potential new players coming in at one of the meetings:

“Why pay when we can promote from with in.”

Yes it works for a couple of players Choo but we can’t fill the majority of the positions with local players they certainly are not up to it.

Striker Isaak Davies aged 25 next month:

2021-26

77 Appearances / 10 Goals

TODAYS INTERVIEW:

Simics forward's exit comes with Cardiff continuing to assess their options in the transfer market, and Barry-Murphy was asked directly whether Yousef Salech and Callum Robinson were enough to lead the line with Simic now gone.

The Cardiff boss also pointed to Isaak Davies as another option up front, despite the Wales international having predominantly operated from a wider position.

BBM

"And Isaak, really. So we see Isaak very much as a striker," Barry-Murphy said.

"But like I said previously, that's an area of the pitch, like all the others, that we're looking to improve."

Barry-Murphy has previously spoken of his belief that Davies can develop into a high-level striker, although the Striker 25 years old next month has in 5 years only scored 10 goals in 77 appearances for the Bluebirds, BBM feels he can fill Strikers roll.

Asked whether he now sees Davies more as a striker, Barry-Murphy was unequivocal.

"Yeah, and so does he. He's told me!" he said.

"But we still think he's potentially a very high-level striker. But I just haven't played him there enough yet to show it."

Davies' pace would also give Cardiff a different profile of forward, with Barry-Murphy acknowledging the youngster could provide another option from the bench or in certain matches.

"Absolutely," he said when asked whether Davies could offer something different as a striker.

F.cking awful decision if he thinks davies is going to be the second striker,
we will have to change complete tactics if this is the case,
as the 2 wingers putting in crosses are going to sail way over issacs head ,
so don' t bother crossing any thing.
Then when salec plays a different game again,
Please bbm sign a recognised goal scorer not davies 10 goals in 77 games

Said he sees him as a striker and so does Isaak. But also saying he wants to bring in a striker too.

"But like I said previously, that's an area of the pitch, like all the others, that we're looking to improve."

It’s all about opinions ,
I wonder what people watch when they can’t see Isaac Davies is a serious player , reeling off stats which don’t show how many of those are sub appearances. He stretches defences either his pace alone which in turn gives our midfield space . I would put him up front .

He's might be good enough I don't know. What I do know is it'll never work in this team. You've got it right he's got the ability to stretch teams we do very little of that. He'd be great in a counter attacking team. We need another striker who can hold the ball up

I can understand the concern, especially with the step up to the Championship.

For me, Robinson has been a good servant to the club, but I think we are reaching the point where we need to move on and bring some fresh legs into that position.

I like Salech. I think there is a very useful Championship striker there, but we cannot expect him to carry the position on his own. His physical style can sometimes work against him as well because defenders know they can go down under contact and potentially buy a foul.

Davies is an interesting one. I can definitely see why BBM views him as a striker and I would be happy to see him used there as an alternative, especially with his pace. My concern is whether he will stay fit and play enough football to build any real consistency.

The bigger problem for me is the market. Proven Championship strikers are going for serious money and I am struggling to see an obvious option within our budget. There are younger players I really like, such as Mheuka at Chelsea and Figueroa at Liverpool, but you are then asking a young lad with very little senior experience to come in and potentially be a major Championship striker.

That is why I would still like another forward, but I completely understand why finding the right one at a price Cardiff can realistically afford is not straightforward.

Perhaps bbm has been told to work within and has now offered up issac as the possibly new striker ?

We could have Pep as manager and they wouldn't send us a player over West Ham.

It was a loan to west ham but not disclosed but I will bow to your judgement on this as your more in the know on this.

West Ham are probably paying his full wage, which we wouldn't be plus it's West Ham. A reality check is needed on who we can get

I'm not in the know at all, I just don't see how we can compete with West Ham for any player.

There's no way we can compete with West Ham.

If your looking at a striker on loan - As I have said the last 2 years ...take a look at Liverpool to start off with -
Koumas - Danns to start off with then look at the likes of Arsenal - Man City and Utd to name just a few ...
