BBM: I won't sign players just to cover injuries

Thu Aug 20, 2026 10:32 am

BBM:

"I think we have to be specific and genuine and have real integrity and honesty with players we're looking to bring in.

"If you bring in a loan player for the sake of it to have an extra number... and then in six - eight weeks' time when Will Fish is back, or however long, and all our players are back and he's just cast aside and we don't use him ever again, really you can be sure that the parent club who sent him in won't send you another player ever again.

"I think that's important, but it's really about honesty from the beginning."

I was a little surprised that Liverpool allowed Scanlon to come back given how few minutes he got last season.

This is such a dangerous game? Fish could suffer setback after 1st Sept so cant get loan in to cover him ... Chambers Osho could aggravate injuries on Saturday if play then what? Play salech in defence its all well and good being calm about sighnings and not bring in unnecessarily but football never works like that you cover all the eventualities otherwise come Sept 1st can be so short of experience we will be putting 18yr olds on bench with no experience ... ... going on a wing and prayer is not best way to start a season because come January win we could be in relegation area and stick there until end season.... reading all bbms posts its clear he lacks the experience to see the problem he is creating for himself.... when does being calm turn into panic? Because it's getting close thats for sure... this is not down to tan this is a bbm made problem that is clear.

Thing is we could loose a lot of games before the likes of lawlor fish etc return, and bbm likes rotation ,
so here we are with confusion with the manager saying we need players in
well our back line is in desperate need of revamping but would rather wait months for fish to return?

I think with Kellyman and Scanlon the hope was both would come back on loan for a second season. They both had just come off bad injuries so it was about building their fitness.

Obviously we've now seen Scanlon back, not the case with Kellyman though.

He's right though. If we loaned a CB from (for example, just choosing a random club) Villa and they played three games but never played again then there's a good chance that the club would never loan us a player again.

Even worse would be signing a player permanently just to play a few games and then we're stuck with them.

We can't have knee jerk reactions to every injury. There were people calling for us to sign someone to cover Tanner's injury last season but he chose not to, and it was proved to be the right decision.

Monty its a dangerous game we cannot come to sept 1st with just the players we have... bbm is starting to look as if hes lacking knowledge of what championship is like for injuries? Being calm is all well and good but no sighnings come August 31st is like the musicians on titanic as it went down! I'm not sure bbm can get out of the predicament hes created by being calm.

Its something he ken choo tan and himself need to sort

i thought 3 weeks in Malaysia was for that reason ,

getting players from within the academy we have just farmed out 8/9?

we need transfers end of, going with what we have will kill ambition and the fans base will dwindled again it's a long time till january.

Re: BBM: I won't sign players just to cover injuries

I'm not too concerned with what he's saying here

I think we will still bring players in just not any CBs which i agree with

I don't think chambers and Lawlor are that far away because they would have said something just like they did with fish

Re: BBM: I won't sign players just to cover injuries

Bbm can decide and its upto him he either brings in cover for months till the others return and then thay are sat on there arses for months ,or should we loose game after game for months with no centre backs ready until the others return ,
that's why you are the manager but if the cover players are good they will keep there places which is good for competion

Bbm brought in people to do the scouting and identifying players that fits bbms philosophy.... the whole situation is down to bbm that is clear and for whatever reason hes offloaded players without replacing them .... if no significant sighnings your right monty hope will be gone at least for time being just depends if he can keep a relative fit squad which looks doubtful going on last season and this one... like said this is down to bbm he's supposedly had lots of targets but failed to get any so far.... its all becoming a mess of his making as say when does calm become a panic?

Yes and we have four CBs which is more than enough. Freak situation to have all four with injuries but it would be a mistake to add another that you have to keep happy when everyone is fit.

We have four CBs, that is enough. Regardless of injuries, having five CBs would leave three not playing in every match - that is detrimental to squad harmony.

Last season it was "look at Plymouth and Luton signing all these players, we're being left behind."

Last week it was "it won't go down well when Wrexham thrash us."

None of these things happened.

I'm glad we've got a manager with a bit of vision. No knee jerk signings to appease the fans. We've been doing that for years and it only took us in the wrong direction we can cope for a few weeks. Lots up in arms last year when we didn't get a Salech replacement in we couldn't stop scoring. I want us to sign players myself but I'd much rather us get one player that will improve us (look at how Moyland is shaping up) than 3 or 4 guys that will be collecting money from the bench.

Like signing a really good quality centre back who will compete for his place i am in agreement with you a out getting 1 player who will improve us ,go and get that centre back.

BBM is not panicking, he has a plan and knows the positions we need to improve. I am sure if they right young centre half he is interested in from Arsenal could come off, we would sign him on loan, but if not he has other priorities and we muddle on a few weeks until Chambers, Lawlor and eventually Fish are fit.

Re: BBM: I won't sign players just to cover injuries

We don't need cover at CB; we have needed a starter since the promotion. If Lawlor is the next great thing and Premier League-bound despite only having one L1 season, we should have a plan for a too good to turn down offer, but if nobody came in with such a bid, he can't be the dominant centre-back we will need in this league. We have always needed a Morrison, Hudson or Sol leader to play along side him.
Osho, Chambers are on the smaller side and Fish is still a work in progress, so in my fan opinion we always needed to spend to counter the physicality of this league.

At 6, which is such an important position in BBM's system, we don't have a starter. Robertson is not a championship 6 at this stage of his career and i guess we were planning to loan King until Christmas to get him match fit.

All the other positions are up for debate in terms of quality, but we needed 2 starters since we let Wintle go.
