Head coach Brian Barry-Murphy has dismissed reports linking Cardiff City with Dutch midfielder Melle Meulensteen.


Former Manchester United youth player Meulensteen plays for Eredivisie side Go Ahead Eagles.


The son of former Red Devils assistant Rene Meulensteen, the 27-year-old missed Eagles' league match with Feyenoord on Sunday, fuelling speculation that he could be set for a transfer.


However when asked about the player as a potential Cardiff signing, Barry-Murphy said:

"It’s a No. We've been linked with loads of different things but it just seems a lot of them are pretty far fetched including this.”


Barry-Murphy remains keen to strengthen in the final 13 days of the summer transfer window, but has suggested no signings are imminent.

I just don't think he's been given that much of a transfer pot, but as you've said we'll find out either way in the next 2 weeks.

I think we’ll be in for a few more top level loans, and that’s where the delay is coming from. Premier League clubs are naturally reluctant to release their best young players until their own squads are fully finalised.

We just have to hope we secure our main targets and that the standard of player remains high. If we do, we can leave BBM to work his magic and develop them the same way he did with Trott and Kellyman.

People are assuming we bid £7m for Dahl and based on that think we have a big transfer budget if we were prepared to pay that I would guess his budget is no more than 5 to 8 million for the season

He said after the game that "it's obvious we need to strengthen all areas of the team" so I think we will see signings come in.

On the plus side, the two outfield players he has signed were good on Monday.

Which is the exact reason why I rarely comment on rumours of transfers on here.

Ends up with posters 100% guessing, conjecture and speculation followed by back biting and arguments followed by 4 pages of nonsense in a player the manager is probably not even interested in!!

He may well surprise everyone, and get some sort of tune out of the crop we already have.

I suspect we will get more loans in, and usually the better ones happen at the end of the window as the parent team are questioning whether to let them out or not until their transfers are completed.

I think if we don't get at least 1 permanent and a couple of loans in, questions will rightly be asked whether the manager is truly being backed by the board.

If I remember correctly, Bulut was openly critical of the board in his time here for not receiving the backing he thought he deserved. I doubt that BBM will follow suit but any perceived lack of ambition by the club may tempt him to ply his trade elsewhere.

I don't quite understand the anti Tan comments on transfers.

1. We know exactly what the budgetary restraints are . They have been published on this site.
2. BBM met VT in Malaysia and all appears to have gone every well.
3. BBM and his main staff subsequently signed new contracts. He does this without assurances of backing?
4. BBM has explained his transfer strategy which is very focussed and his targets are probably not easy secure (my reservation in this is that failure leaves us very exposed).
5. Moylan is in and looks a good addition. Importantly he seems to fit in to the mentality and style of play. Trott speaks for himself.

We all want things to happen yesterday and I get concerned like many other fans. Although I hate jargon , we have to trust the process.
