Signings, patience is key

Reading on Twitter (x) the frustration is understandable to a certain degree but it is now evident and obvious that the loan market is where we are looking at this stage.

We done well to secure Trott on permanent basis and Moylan is shrewd business from us considering he was one of the best players in league 1 last season.

I trust BBM and the process, his pull with young talented players from higher clubs is what will get us through the window and I think fans forget that big clubs are still in their pre season and won’t know for sure who they’ll loan out until the last week even the final day of the window to gain experience.

We still need 3-4 players imo but I do believe (including Calum) we will get at least 3 through the door.

It is a tough window for us coming up from league 1 to championship and trying to sell the club as an established championship club again but let’s remain positive.

I see what you're saying but you can't build a club on loan players because every season you're having to start again with new loans.

Loan players who do well then move onwards and upwards in their careers and leave us behind.

I think the club is trying to develop it's youngsters with a view to future sales which is fair enough but I can't help feeling that BBM is still working with a budget that is restrictive as regards the type of experience we need in the Championship.

I may be wrong and we may pay £5m or £6m each on a couple of experienced players before the end of the window but I'd be surprised if we actually do that.

Never know might end up signing players on permanent and not loan when it comes to the crunch time of the window some clubs might be just waiting for the right offer etc.

BBM said yesterday that any delays are more down to him than the club.

We can't judge it yet, or we're being unfair.

It's clearly a case of us fans " feeling comfortable about feeling uncomfortable" til the transfer window closes.

I can see both sides regarding those that are trusting BBM and those that have no faith in the hiarchy.

Once the window close we as fans will know for sure.

Nothing going to happen before Monday nights game, so let's focus on doing our bit to help the team get a winning start

Takes me back to last summer:

"This manager is not experienced enough to get us promoted"

"We need at least six players for promotion"

"We don't have enough experienced players"

"Look how many everyone else has signed, we'll be nowhere near top six"


Now of course the Championship is different, but this just goes to show that the fans who are throwing their toys out of the pram right now have a track record of being over the top with their criticism around transfer windows - especially as this one hasn't even ended.

I see a club that lost 4 players at the end of last season (a season that finished a whole 3 1/2 months ago). In that time we've only managed to re-secure Trott on a permanent deal, we've swapped Kellyman for Moylan (is it an upgrade? possibly, possibly not) and we are on the verge of re-securing Scanlon on loan. So an initial 4 steps back only to then retrace 3 of them (you could say 4 if Eli King is taking up Wintle's place in the squad).

Are we not now at square 1? Nothing has changed in 3 1/2 months and the championship starts tonight.

The true ambition of the club, and Tans real backing of BBM, starts once Scanlon is signed up. Then we are on a (sort of) level pegging to where we finished in league 1. And we've only got 2 and a half weeks to work within.

Risky game by the club and the gaffer but I hope your patience pays off Worcester.

Well, as you rightly say, the window is not shut.

All this talk of "the league starts tonight" or "our first game is in three days" is all true, but it's not really relevent.

If we'd judged our squad before Peterborough last season then we wouldn't have Trott, Kellyman or Osho.

I have pointed out how everyone was saying last summer that we had no chance of top six and look how that turned out.

If we don't add quality by the end of the window then I will criticise, but all the signs are we will.

BBM was in his usual mood yesterday. Laughing, engaging in questions and making totally valid points about the transfer window. He's definitely not worried, so neither am I.

The notion of getting experienced Championship players is an interesting one. Last time we were in this league we had a highly experienced squad and it failed miserably. Our current group are not without experience. Chambers, Osho, Willock, Colwill, Robertson, Bagan, Davies Salech, Ng, Robinson have all played there. BBM has built a youthful team but its not totally inexperienced at all. BBM wantsa certain quality and a player to fit his system not necessarily a name or millions spent. Bristol City signed Tolaj and Ballard for huge fees but would either be significantly better than our current group? Time will tell but I am willing to wait to the end of the window before judging..

I agree that patience is needed but with us being among the favourites to go down and being in a foreign country it takes a little bit (ok a lot) of persuading people to come here.

We are not the draw most people here think we are, including myself most of the time, and not even the main Welsh team at the head of the queue.
