Wrexham are in their second successive season in the Championship, having been promoted from League in second place in 2024/25.

If we paid £8 million for a keeper this place would go into meltdown & rightly so.

They have the £s to spend with their new main sponsor and all of the high profile sponsors throwing money at them.

Just had a quick look at their forum & they seem pretty confident of getting a result against us with only 5% think we'll win.

I think we'll struggle, Moore will score as always. 1-3 to them.

We don`t have a good record when we get BIG crowds at home. Seen a lot of bad results over past 60 years

Wrexham have clinched the signing of goalkeeper Anthony Patterson from Sunderland for an undisclosed fee.

Patterson has signed a four-year deal with the north Wales side and could now be involved in their Championship opener at Cardiff City on Monday, 17 August.

"Wrexham really suits me in terms of what I want to do in my career, so it feels like a perfect fit," said the 26-year-old.

"I've seen the journey that the club's been on and it's really exciting to now be part of it.

"I want to play in the Premier League with Wrexham, and I think everything is in place and ready for the club to do that."

Patterson's arrival could potentially pave the way for Nigeria international Arthur Okonkwo - who is in the final year of his contract with Wrexham - to leave the Racecourse Ground.

Wales international Danny Ward has also entered the final year of his contract with the club.

Patterson added: "I'm really looking forward to playing in front of our fans, pushing up the league, and getting this football club to where it deserves to be."

Patterson is a product of Sunderland's academy and made his senior debut for the Black Cats in 2020-21.

He made his league bow in the following season and, after joining Notts County on loan for the opening half of the 2021-22 campaign, helped Sunderland gain promotion to the Championship via the League One play-offs.

In 2024-25, Patterson featured 45 times in the Championship as Sunderland beat Sheffield United in the play-off final at Wembley to gain promotion to the Premier League.

Patterson then fell behind 2025 summer signing Robin Roefs in the Sunderland pecking order, featuring just once in the first half of last season before spending the second half of the campaign on loan at Millwall.

He featured 16 times across all competitions for the Lions.

Patterson - who made 169 competitive appearances for Sunderland - featured as a substitute as Regis Le Bris' side beat Wrexham 1-0 in a pre-season friendly at Philadelphia's Subaru Park earlier this month.

"We're delighted to welcome Anthony to the football club," Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said.

"He's a young keeper, but with a lot of experience at Championship level, and we look forward to working with him."

I think they will be ready for us this time round. In the cup game last year, we played them off the park and took them totally by surprise, they had no answer. Not got a good feeling about Monday though, we could face a Lincoln'esque type set up with better quality players.

Well given you told me last summer that we had no chance of promotion and that I was living in cuckoo land for saying we would go up, I'll put my money on a home (that's a joke by the way, we all get things wrong - me more than others)

Being serious, when this was revealed as our first game I thought it was great. But it's a tough first game to have, even at home.

Wrexham will be top half at least I think and I've said I expect us to be bottom ten. So it won't be easy, but partly because these players will be excited to play in the Championship I will back us to win 2-1.

I've gone for a draw although they have better players on the pitch I'd say but it's the first game at home with a bumper crowd, so we should be up for it im sure plus if our fans get behind us rather than a funeral with a drum going off in the background like most games last season anything can happen

Bolton Wanderers have signed Wrexham defender Lewis Brunt for an undisclosed fee on a four-year deal.

The 25-year-old joined the Red Dragons from Leicester in July 2024 and made 31 league appearances in two seasons.

Brunt is the second player to join Wanderers from Wrexham this week after striker Ryan Hardie made the move on loan on Tuesday.

"The club's back into the Championship and I want to try to continue playing in this league and showcase my ability," he told the club website.
