" TUESDAY 26th OCTOBER 2010 UPDATE "

Tue Oct 26, 2010 8:15 pm

What a trip that was last night, one which I am sure will go down as a " I was there " game. What a contrast between 2 away games only 6 days apart, at Coventry last Tuesday evening for the first time in over 30 years Cardiff City had a police free away match and then the very next game we see a massive operation between Yorkshire and South Wales forces which included more than 250 officers.

There were 4 arrests at the game last night, 3 Leeds and 1 City, the one city youngster was charged for foul and abusive for an incident prior to the game. Like many fans I was extremely disappointed that many of us missed the start of the game and I was also surprised by the Police handling of crowd control or in some part the lack of it.

City fans on coaches were taken to a designated car park near to the away end but considering there was a heavy police presence I was baffled to see Leeds supporters mingling in and around our coaches and this happening directly behind the police line only some 50 yards away. There was a lack of desire to keep the supporters apart to avoid the risk of confrontation.

On arriving near the turnstiles it was obvious that there was a problem trying to service so many supporters at one time through the turnstiles and I spoke with a City official and I raised concerns at the bottle necking of fans at the turnstile entrance and I asked why gates could not be opened to allow a more free movement of fans into the ground, after all everybody on the coaches travelled with a match voucher, the response I got was " because of the Hillsborough disaster, which is sensitive to the area, no Northern force or club will take the decision to open gates to a game ".

I am informed that for corresponding fixture at the CCS there will be the same number of officers deployed and that Leeds fans will travel under the same restrictions as we did yesterday.

For the upcoming South Wales derby there will be more than 300 Police officers on duty for that game.

Regarding injuries Danny Drinkwater will resume full training with the first squad tomorrow after Man Utd medical staff have given him the all clear to do so, they are satisfied that his injury is treated and we can look forward to getting Danny back to fitness. Match sharpness will be another matter all together and maybe Dave Jones will arrange for another reserve game to help with Danny's return and also giving the other squad members some game time.

The news on Chris Riggott is not so good, despite being so close recently, he was "less than a week away" at one stage, on the way home last night I made a phone call and was told that Chris will be at least another couple of weeks away. This situation needs to be dealt with as I feel we have a lack of specialised cover at Centre half and if Hudson and Gabor picked up an injury or suspension, we will be left struggling to fill the void.

Craig Bellamy's programme is getting him to the peak of his fitness and by his own admission he feels that he is pretty much there with the fitness and I am told that Craig will start against Norwich on Saturday and will be looking to maintain the 100% record the team has when he plays.

Much has been made by pundits and the media alike over Jay Bothroyd's challenge on Becchio in last nights game, many over us received texts to say he should have been sent off and we were lucky to have 11 on the pitch but in fairness at the time of the challenge no player made a deal of the tackle and even after the game Simon Grayson said that he hadn't seen it and that that would be the end of the situation.

But today Leeds Utd have complained to the English FA over the challenge and today the English FA have asked the Welsh FA to look at the challenge using TV replays and have asked for Bothroyd to be charged. Leeds have made a lot of noise over the challenge and they would seem to have the backing of the English FA.

In the summer I understand that Terry Burton was offered the position of National coach of Dubai and he was convinced by Dave Jones and the Malaysians to stay on board to take this club forward and into the Premier League. In Terry Burton we have a top quality coach and tactician who would be difficult to replace if he left but thankfully for his Terry decided to stay and continue with Dave Jones in trying to achieve promotion.

I read in the Echo last week Steve Tucker's claims of "No Cash Bonanza" for Dave Jones in January, I have again asked questions and been told that Dave Jones has a list of players ready and that he believes he will be backed in the transfer window. Make no doubt about it, Vincent Tan wants promotion this season and he has backed DJ so far and I stand by my statement that he will back him again come January.

This Saturday prior to the Norwich game at the Ninian Park Pub Jonny Owen and The Stand will be launching the "I'll Be There" single and at 2pm the fans will be asked to leave the Pub and walk together over to Asda where we will be able to buy our copies of the single and helping it stay at the top of the charts.

This walk is "The Fans March For Fred " and as well as the band and the fans marching there will also be on display the FA Cup and it will be carried with us past the stadium and over to the retail park. We need as many as possible to attend this event and support this great cause, which this Forum and Jonny and the band along with many others have worked very hard to get the coverage and recognition it has got so far, now it is down to the fans to make sure we make it as big as possible and tell the whole of the UK, that we have the oldest football chant in the world. :ayatollah:

There will be Press coverage about the march throughout this week and leading into Saturday, also the Football League show will be featuring it too on Saturdays show, so let's make this massive and help do your bit for Fred Keenor the Legend. This Thursday at HMV in Cardiff, The Stand and 2 City Players will be making a special appearence.

Good update.

Bad news about Jay. Pisses me off as when Wayne Thomas crocked Chops we said nothing and he got away with it despite Chops being out for 6 weeks. Jays challenge wasnt good but no one was hurt by it. The ref saw it and chose not to act.

Cheers Carl! The Riggott news is distressing, it does show up how weak we are defensively. Thankfully, Blake and Kev can play CB if needed...

I'm not surprised about jay.It was a bad tackle.
Whats the penalty in these cases.

If any disciplinary is brought on jay then hopefully he misses the Norwich game and not the Jacks.

If the referee says he seen the tackle but thought it did not warrant a booking or worse, there really is nothing the english fa or the faw can do about it, these are the rules been in force for two years, but if the ref says he did not see the tackle, then the welsh fa can retrospectively add a booking or worse ban him for x amount of games

To be fair it's a bit of a bad challange, but it's a yellow card IMO (I would say that but I'm a defender so there we are, lol), and there was no viciousness in the tackle it was just clumsy. It gets me so annoyed that there was no complaint from anyone untilt he media went up in arms about it.

Good update as usual Carl

exactly, that was a career threatening tackle.
jay clearly had his eye on the ball it was just a bit late and reckless.

This is just it though, we have so many ways to refute their appeal.

Nothing was done or said by anyone at the time so how they can do anything now is byond me.

It would be setting an unfair precedent and I'd love to think that this modern CCFC won't take that sort of shit.

There is no way the ref will say he never saw it, it happened in front of him only a few yards away and he gestured "play on".

Seems Jay will be okay then. :D
Hope he don't get booked at the Norwich game. :o

Great up date Carl thank you. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Cheers Carl. This is what pisses me off. Sky TV the media, The English FA really have it in for CCFC. WHY ? is it because we are Welsh ? Or they just dont want our team our supporters in there Premier league.
Case one.. When we played Swansea City when the ref got hit with that coin, everyone the press the FA all wanted to have us hung. Last season Craig Bellemy was hit in the face with a coin thrown by MUFC fans and guess what happened? f**k all that's what. Case two...why did the English FA organise a witch hunt against us when we signed Bellemy but said feck all when Liverpool signed players so did MUFC.
Last night Naylor got deliberately kicked in the face which also warranted a red card ,what was said about that? NOTHING!! WHY?
Our club should also ask for that incident to be looked at as well.
f**k SKY f**k the MEDIA and f**k the English FA
