BBM says "we need new players"

Sat Aug 08, 2026 4:56 pm

BBM:

“I think we need new players. I think we need additions.

“You saw how stretched we are in terms of numbers today, and that's even if the players who are injured were fit. We're very conscious that we have to strengthen the squad.

“The timescale is impossible at the moment. It's been a window that's been influenced by the World Cup, and it seems to be difficult to put a time on anything.

"Left back is one area.

“I'm not sure of the make-up of who we bring in, but just to be honest with our supporters, we are looking to make additions.

“The intention for Etete and Simic is that they have loan interest.

“I don't know whether the loans that have come in for them have been what they want yet, but we're hoping to keep them in the best of shape so that when the opportunity comes for them that they want, they're in the best possible condition to go and do their job.”

No mention of the injured plsyers
He also said transfer window has been impacted by the world cup. There's no timescale to signing new players.

Re: BBM says "we need new players"

Everybody has been affected by the world cup yet other teams are signing players. Bristol City on 8 or 9 now.

Come on Barry, have a word with upstairs. Get them to pull their sodding fingers out.

We ain't asking for the earth, just another 3 or 4 to put us in a healthy position.

Re: BBM says "we need new players"

Sat Aug 08, 2026 5:44 pm

It has to be the right players though. I'm sure we could have signed 8 or 9 just like Bristol City have but that's what we've done in the past & look where that got us.

He sees the issues & knows we need players & it can't be a money issue if we're out there offering £7 million for someone so it's down to waiting for the right ones.

Re: BBM says "we need new players"

Sat Aug 08, 2026 6:12 pm

He needed backing and set up ready for when the window opened in truth when pre season begins, not 1 week or so before the season starts. This whole time scale bollocks he keeps saying is another way of saying he wanted players and not got them in my opinion or there coming last minute. I also don't believe for one moment we bid a supposed 7m for some player who went to hull. Nonsense media spin to get a move I reckon.

Hope we get a couple of signings in before Wrexham game squad is to small for the championship come on TAN, BACK BBM NOW!!!!

Your right, it defo has to be the right players for sure, and I don't want us to sign 8 or 9 like Bristol. Just struggle to see why we havent got more in by now.
Is BBM being too picky? We all know he's a bit of a perfectionist, a bit obsessive.
Don't get me wrong, I want us to sign the perfect left back to challenge Bagan for example, one that ticks all the boxes. But if I felt like that no.1 target was gonna go down to the wire and there was uncertainty around the signing, I'd instead go for a player further down the list who is available now. BBM worries me in that, if he fails to get that perfect player, he'd rather go without. What happens then if Bagan breaks his leg on the 1st weekend in Sept. It's too risky to play that game in the championship.

This is a bit worrying.

We've had months to sort out new additions but apart from Moylan it's not happened.

We don't want to be scrambling around at the end of the window because there's rarely much quality available by then. We may get some youngsters on loan but they are a gamble.

What does he mean by "I'm not sure of the make up of who we bring in?" Surely the manager should know the exact make up of who we bring in?

That quote sounds to me that nothing is imminent as far as transfers are concerned and with Rubin, Lawlor, Fish and Chambers all likely to be missing for the first game and Osho struggling with an injury we are really struggling.

Having a small squad in this division is asking for trouble.

On today's showing we are going concede a hatful of goals week in, week out.

Osho is a liability but nobody on the books and fit to make BBM drop him - and not sure BBM would drop him anyway (Osho is BBM's man and can't/won't see his limitations)

Can the wheels fall off before the first league game?

Can BBM begin to start getting stick before the first league game?

Players & backroom staff gone but not replaced.

Injuries mounting up after 0 real games (back to the backroom staff & preparation?)

Any buzz from promotion looking a distant memory

Maybe you have that mindset. I and others are looking forward to next week and promotion is no decent memory.

Talk of the wheels coming off next week because of a few mistakes in a game that felt like a friendly is bizarre. We did also get to the next round albeit against League Two opponents, but that was the target for today.

You've picked out Osho so you seem like another who has a vendetta against him. In the media and by balanced supporters, he's being praised for his performance.

I will criticise if we lose the opening league game with a poor performance but going heavy on today is just unfair.

Let's not forget that Bristol City lost at home to League Two side Walsall and Burnley needed penalties to beat Notts County. I doubt their fans are going over the top in response.

Do we need to add a centre back to that list now?

Re: BBM says "we need new players"

I think this goes on for a few more weeks. BBM knows the profile of the players he wants, bit its whether they are going to be released.

For example, Palace haven't signed anyone in the Premier yet, with 2 biggies going; when they do, they'll then know who they are going to loan or sell of the U23/deep sqaud players.

I think thats the player BBM will be after. Its a waiting game

We’re all in the same boat, none of us know the goings on behind the scenes. So positive or negative viewpoints are all at best, guess work.

With that in mind, what I personally find interesting is what BBM chooses to say publicly. He’s a diplomat and has been since the start, he also very intentionally recognises board members publicly. So his sentiment today, I wonder if that’s an intentional public show of frustration from him where he’s applying pressure to get the signings moving.

Based on what was made public last year about him ripping up the transfer profiles the club had lined up, it’s possible he’s had easier targets come across his desk that he’s rejected in pursuit of those bigger names, the Dahl’s of the world..

That 6 position must be a sticking point for him, seeing as the news coming through Glen and others is that he has a specific profile intended for that role, which Robertson largely doesn’t match. (The physical attributes being taller than 6 foot, strong and technically excellent, like Rodri). If when we come to September, we haven’t strengthened across the squad.. it’ll be interesting to see what BBM does if a bigger club comes knocking. So let’s hope there’s serious investment between now and September!

What confuses me, is that Daland is on the books, but has been loaned out even though we knew the CB situation.

Can we recall Daland now?

Or is that only after set period?

Not my mindset (or vendetta) just an opinion. I just don't rate him - he always looks surprised that the ball, or an attacker, is anywhere near him.

Osho will cost us goals and games week in, week out.

Not sure how BBM sees past his limitations (other than he paid a shed load for him)

Im amazed how salech never learns , every game he gets pulled up for most of the time nothing
Yet it keeps happening, he needs to analyse his game and adjust , it costs us so much momentum
Maybe employ a experienced player to help learn his trade
Theres a great player there but hes so frustrating at times

Whats this club doing, there were talks about Mark McGuiness coming, where's that now,
We need a left back incase Bagan goes down, we desperately need someone on the wing that can get the ball across, Swindon's winger that came on, he looked good or better than we've got.

Re: BBM says "we need new players"

We signed Osho on the 29th August and Kellyman on Sept 1st.

Before that:

- Daaland signed on 21st August
- Salech 17th Jan
- Fish 23rd August
- Turnbull Feb 1st

We, like many and most others in the 92, have a pattern of signing players late in the window.

Trott and Moylan are rare earlier signatures when commanding fees. Robertson was another stand out in July, and the rest of the crap that arrived early were free transfers who I'd rather not waste time typing out (Meite and co..)

That may very well be the case but we are 4 players down with injury, 2 we have known about for a good while 3 players also left last season we have 1 in to date so I would have thought a bit more urgency for the start of the season next week but it seems we will still go with what we have until the end of the window and after failing to secure the supposed bid for the Norwegian.

There'll always be a reason, I like to deal in facts and trends; which are we and others tend to sign players in the last 2 weeks of every window.

You'll be off on one Jan 12th when we haven't signed anyone. I cant wait... :sleepy2:

Only my opinion it maybe a million miles off the.mark.
It all sounds like something isn't right.
I think we were going to sell Lawlor .who turned the move down hence he has been frozen out
Now we have no cash to spend . BBM quoted Dylan doesn't know when he will be back . Does Dylan know that or is it the medical team ?

Have to agree - there is more to the Lawlor situation.

Egg supporters christened Warren Gatland 'Cementhead' for his ability to ignore all the facts available and stick to his views. Apparently this included freezing out players who had narked him, to the detriment of the team.

Just saying.

Plus, as I posted in another thread, more staff leaving, apparently.

Some good points there.

In that quote are we seeing the first signs of frustration from the manager?

Just my opinion of course but I think he's given a list of what he wants to the hierarchy but for one reason or another they've been unable to provide him with what he needs.

BBM is no fool - he knows that if we go into the season as we are it's going to be a relegation battle from day one.

I really hope I'm wrong but so far I can't help thinking that the manager is being somewhat let down by those running the club and their inability to stregnthen the squad in the many areas that are vital at this time.

I think you're reading a little too much into his comments.

He was asked by Glen if they were loans or permanent and he just said "I'm not of the make-up of who we bring in".

He has always been coy about transfers because he knows how to handle the media. He's said in the past that nothing is close and then someone comes in a few days later, so he's just playing the game.

I wouldn't try and read between the lines of what he says when it comes to transfers because it's impossible.
