Yes he's not cheap but that's the going rate nowadays if you're serious about mounting a challenge.

Tbf, we’d be saying the same about Moylan if another championship side had got him.

It's easy to see why, with Ballard scoring 23 goals in 40 league appearances for a struggling team.
I guess Ballard was out of our price range, but it raises concerns to me their manager hasn't tried to take Moylan with him as well.

Well for a start, Moylan is a midfielder and Ballard is a striker.
It's a bit like saying "I don't know why you bought a pizza from the supermarket and not some batteries instead."
If you mean both, then maybe he thinks he has the players in that position at Bristol City. Or maybe Moylan preferred to join us. We'll never know the answer to that.

Ballard doesn't play as an out and out striker. He plays just off the main striker or like an inside forward, coming inside off the wing, just like Moylan.

You must be thinking of someone else.
Ballard is an out and out number nine.

When we beat Leyton Orient 4-3, he was playing off Aaron Connolly and dropping into the pockets. That's how he scored his screamer, curling into the top corner.
I don't see him as an out and out striker, although I'm sure he can play there.

You've obviously decided to convince yourself that he's not a number nine so it can go with a point you were trying to make, so I'll leave it at that.
