I was initially shocked by this but speaking to a friend who is a massive Newcastle supporter, it’s apparently not the surprise it at first seems

Having turned us down at one point, he’s done very well for Newcastle United but their owners have let him down with signings this summer, despite claims they are ‘ambitious’ and wanting ‘immediate success

I wish him well wherever he goes next and Newcastle may struggle at the start of the current season with plans being put into disarray

I thought he should have gone at the end of the season.

He's done a great job there. Won a trophy and got them into the Champions League a couple of times.

But felt at the end of last season that he had taken them as far as he can. This is probably the best solution for all parties.

I wonder if Tuchel leaves now and he takes over.

Howe is in a strange position where he’s still probably considered the best active English manager but probably isn’t going to be getting a job in club football any bigger than Newcastle any time soon.

He's an excellent manager and won't be out of work for long.

Don't remember him turning us down though? Was that when he first left Bournemouth?

Wonder where we might be now if he'd taken the job!
