" BBM SIGNS NEW CONTRACT "

Wed Jul 29, 2026 2:03 pm

We are delighted to confirm that Brian Barry-Murphy has signed a new contract with Cardiff City Football Club in addition to his First Team Coaching Team.

The Bluebirds Head Coach, his Assistant Head Coach Lee Riley and Head of Performance Kevin Gibbins have all put pen-to-paper on new three-year deals in the Welsh capital, which will run until the summer of 2029.

Arriving in South Wales back in June 2025, Brian, Lee and Kevin oversaw City’s immediate return to the Sky Bet Championship, winning automatic promotion from Sky Bet League One at the first time of asking, with a Club record points total of 91. Brian and his staff also took the Bluebirds to the Quarter Finals of the Carabao Cup last season.

Along with that success on the pitch, Brian has presented many opportunities for young First Team and Academy players during his tenure, promoting young, local talents and providing them with exposure to senior football. Our Academy-developed players collectively played 15,280 minutes in 2025/26, the highest Club total in the EFL.

Speaking exclusively to Cardiff City TV after signing his contract,

Brian said: “It’s an amazing honour for me, and I’m really grateful to everybody involved. When I first came here, I had an idea of how big the club was, but over the course of the last 12 months I think I’ve probably seen it in all its splendour, so I’m really pleased.

“I feel nothing but gratitude for the opportunity Tan Sri Vincent Tan has provided, and over the course of the last twelve months, he, Mehmet Dalman, Ken Choo and Steve Borley have been there every step of the way.

“When I first came here, Lee Riley and Kevin Gibbins came with me. It would be impossible for me to do the job I do without those guys providing me with such support and expertise in their chosen roles.

“The energy that we’ve had from the supporters from the very first day has propelled us forward, at a speed that may have not seemed possible. Like anything, once you get things going, moving forward with positivity and with a real togetherness, great things can be achieved.”

Tan Sri Vincent Tan said: “Brian proved last season what was possible with hard work and talented young players all pulling in the same way. He is considered as one of the best young coaches in British football and we are very pleased to have him leading our team here at Cardiff City Football Club for the longer term. I wish him the greatest of success and look forward to our future.”

Wow, that's amazing and helps young players commit to their futures here. It will be great to convince new players to sign and join the project. Amazing for Tan too; he can commit the money to help BBM achieve promotion in three years.

#brilliantnews Well done BBM, and Tan :ayatollah:

Brilliant news I'm glad the club are doing this now rather than waiting till his contract runs to its last year

Possibly the most important signing the club will make all summer.

Thoroughly deserved after what he did last season.

Needs to be given time to see his project through and let's see where it takes both us and him.

Excellent news.

This will be the best signing ever for City.
I believe he will build a dynasty like Arsene Wenger did with Arsenal.
Building a future team with young dynamic well coached players. :bluebird:

Another very positive sign that BBM is being backed. He's not going to stick around with a new contract unless he believes in the project he's started. Patience is needed but I think we'll see some exciting signings at the end of this window.

I hope you're right but I think if he's as successful as we all hope he is then bigger clubs will be taking an interest sooner rather than later.

When was the last time a club wanted to steal our Manager?

I see it as a massive positive; to me, BBM seems a real, honest, quite humble manager. I think he intends to see it through if he can, unless a mega offer comes in. I think we have him for a few more seasons, and I think he and Tan are building towards a promotion before the end of the contract.

I can't think of any manager in the past who was wanted by any bigger clubs except a few rumours that clubs were looking at Malky when he got us promoted.

Certainly no massive queue for Jones, Ole, Slade, Whitehead, Hudson, Morison, Bulut or Riza to name just a few.
