“ Ten Days to go “

Before League Cup match at Home:

Players need to Jell ready for a very very tough season ahead:

Hopefully a good performance this Saturday v Roma:

For Five-Six Championship signings to make and two backroom staff to hire.

Players will leave as well.

Even BBM has acknowledged publicly we need New Signings:

Swindon home, it's a nice little test to measure where we are fitness and squad-wise before the season starts.

I expect it to be like a friendly with the maximum changes early in the second half or if it's going well at half-time.

Agreed we need players; I am sure everyone is working flat out to secure them.

They certainly are Mark on a limited Budget.

We have to get rid of a few as well and the ones they want to are on massive wages so No one will touch.

We have had interest in our youngsters but No where near as much as they thought.

We will def bring in loans, I believe BBM will find quality on the loans

Without doubt we need at least five players, I'd hope we can all agree on that.

We would all prefer players to come in early but to get the right players, sometimes you have to wait. Transfers that happen early tend to happen because there's no competition for them.

I am glad we're not just signing anyone. That is a mistake we've made consistently in the past.

Hopefully we do see some movement soon.

I think he will use the Swindon match as a friendly.

We have had a good few months to shuffle the pack wintle and kellyman left months ago ,we may very well get 4/5 players which would make 3 new additions the other 2 are covering our lost players but our last friendly in s few days after that we start ahainst wrexham so bbm will not in my book have a clue who his best 11 is lawlors not played and any newbies may not come in until after 3 games.
bbm has a lot to do after his holiday with Mr Tan and whatever they discussed.

Re: “ Ten Days to go “

We have left it way too late and while Wrexham have been playing Man Utd and Leeds in friendlies and beating them while their new signings are gelling, we're playing Forest Green.

Roma will be a decent test, but Italian teams don't have the same intensity. I think Wrexham are going to want revenge for last season and they'll beat us convincingly.

I fear we are being way too complacent and we are underestimating how big a rebuilding job is required to get our squad competing at Championship level.

I fear we are going to start the season poorly with a few defeats, then we will be struggling to bring anyone decent in to improve us.

I agree with a lot you say apart from wrexham signings, which they may have 1 over the line ,
but in terms of us competing financially sad to say we are miles behind we all thought tan was going to release the purse strings ,he may do but to date the zip is closed.
Some poster said the Norwegian guy would be sorted Monday ,perhaps next Monday this is how it goes with us i am sure bbm would have liked his new additions in playing friendlies by now.

It is starting to get a little worrying. I think with what we have we’ll be battling relegation.

We get promoted and our squad is worse than last year. No Kellyman, Wintle, Scanlon etc. it is the same squad that finished bottom last time we were there, of course different manager and the players have developed.

I don’t see Eli King as a Wintle upgrade if that’s the plan… Starting to get concerned now.

This is bang on Monty.
We wrapped up promotion back in April, almost 4 months ago!

I get there are holidays and contracts coming to an end etc, but I really think we should've sealed some quality acquisitions by now. When did the ball actually start rolling here? Last month!?

I'm worried that we're going to be found wanting and might end up with some deflating results early season unless we pull some rabbits out the bag in next week or two.

Monty so much truth in your post and I agree with you :thumbright:

What worries me is that we need quite a few players and there doesn't seem to be anything on the horizon.

In some ways I could understand waiting for the Norwegian lad if he was the final piece of the jigsaw but so far we're still missing quite a few pieces!

Surely we must be able to get some of our targets signed by now?

I'm not sure I agree that there's no competition for players that sign early.

The Wurzels have done some decent business early and do you really think there was no competition for the lad Tolaj?

Personally I'd hoped that we could have been looking at the player also.

I agree we shouldn't be signing just anyone but it is a little concerning that not even one of our targets has so far been able to get over the line.

I could understand if one or two were outstanding but all of them?

I say it every year, but I'll judge the quality of the window when it's closed.

I get why people are concerned, it's totally fair. But there is over a month left of the window.

We'd all prefer all our signings to be in by Wrexham, but that's just not what happens anymore.

People could be proved right to be so concerned, but we won't know the answer to that until the end of the window in my opinion.

Personally I can't wait for the transfer window to close so we know what we've got and will be focusing on the football for a few months. Let's just hope we do add what we need by the time we get to that point.

Ned you are spot on buddy. I would rather wait for quality than jump in for crap.
Everyone knows all the best players and loans are mainly done at the end of the window. Monty has been panicking since March.

Re: “ Ten Days to go “

Hopefully a win on my birthday against Roma
The team have done a good job this pre season although i would have had similar quality teams to build confidence and fitness for the new season.

Dean

Maybe not since March, but more annoyed than panicking, but I am not alone in my thinking,
like I have said, we have been here before and when we did not bring many players in the past the usual lot went quite, and we have to go with what we got and it's to late and the same mantra from the usual.
We don't want to just sign anyone nobody is saying just sign anyone ,but the season finished in April you would have thought that bbm would want to bed in new arrivals early .
Barry i am sure would like to concentrate onthe football when the season starts not still f.cking about with transfers dealings etc

The idea with friendlies is to sort out your best 11 for the coming season we are still down from last season scanlon wintle kellyman gone lawlor has he kicked a ball yet ? So i would say at the moment we are nowhere near ready .

Your defo not alone with your thinking Monty. It's quite bizarre that not 1 single addition has come in yet, especially with how much time has past since last season ended. I don't actually think I can remember a pre-season that has been so quiet. Obviously that could all change very quickly - and I really hope it does.

Putting a positive spin on this though. We at least know that the majority of last seasons squad are together and training hard...and if that Isaac Davies goal against Forest Green is anything the go by (the 1 that started with us winning the ball back by our own corner flag), we ain't half looking sharp!

Reasonable points made. Although I take a different view, they are fair comments.

My strongest disagreement would be that I don't think friendlies are to find your best 11. I think they are primarily about building fitness levels and patterns of play.

I also don't believe getting players to gel is such a big issue when you're bringing in five players. It is when you're bringing in ten, which we won't be thankfully.

But I do accept that many will take your view instead of mine on this subject.

That's very fair of you Ned rather than just saying we are negative worried for our start to the season and I hoped for new recruits to boost ticket sales also

Time is getting on and in a perfect situation we'd have at least 3 signings in by now, however, ive got faith in BBM and the recruitment team to get what our manager wants.

Im not convinced all the signings he wants will be in before the first league game though more's the pity.

That's fair enough also, we all want what is best for bbm 's start to the season,
and none of us want any donkeys and I am sure that bbm is not going to bring us any in either.

That sounds very promising as I have said ticket sales need a big big big boost,
what a let down it would be if fans thought same old rhetoric not bothering and we had a misery 20,000 at our first home game against wrexham,
the whole fan base needs to be buzzing for the start of the season.

Nobody will be buzzing if they still have to watch the same tired depleted squad from last season. Definitely needs a few editions to increase ticket sales.

We may very likely get kellyman back which would be boost, but we have to replace our player of the season, and as you say something new and exiting players, gets the juices flowing.

Christ, tired and depleted squad! I certainly never witnessed that last season.

Yes everybody and his wife knows we need a few signings and BBM will get that done but tired and depleted squad?

Too right, our squad is young and fresh not tired and depleted. We all want signings but way too negative. Also do you really think signings are going to move the needle? Whoever we sign chances are 99% of our fans will not have heard of them before
