Darren Purse leaves Cardiff City with immediate effect as he finally lands manager job

Former Cardiff City captain Darren Purse has left the Bluebirds to become Sligo Rovers manager who are bottom in the League of Ireland.

Sligo Rovers with home crowds of 2,000 and a capacity of 5,500.

Purse has been looking for a managers job the last 12months and was linked with Newport County, but nothing became of it.

And to be honest I am happy.

He also wanted to leave a long time ago.

For me this is not really a step up in football.

By the way all the players we have produced that are very good have come virtually directly from our Under 18’s managers in the past.

As a player I rated very highly and thank you for your service for the Bluebirds when you Captained and played for us.

All the best for the future.

A bit of an odd one, as I’m not sure it’s a ‘step up’ from his current role. Having said that, I don’t know the League of Ireland

A very good player for the Bluebirds in his time, he must have ‘something’ about him to have survived so long at the CCS

His new club in a precarious position, but the only way is up, I guess!

Chris,

I agree as a player for us.

For me this is not a step up and the league is awful and terrible football and very low crowds.

If they are relegated then it’s really really poor football.

But good luck to him.

Good luck to him
...I think it's a step up to be a manager of a team with crowds of 2000 against an u21 manager. If he can do well there he can likely progress to a lower league EFL club in future

Presumably bbm will have input into who gets the under 21 role. Could be a blessing in disguise.

I don't think he's done a good job but I wish him well, has contributed to us as a player and a coach.

Not ideal to have this change in late July though.

Wouldn't be against Sean Morrison getting the job.

Great appointment for the Bit Of Red. Another City link for the Club along with Ollie Denham and Luke Pearce. I can see a few more loan signings for Sligo from City in the coming seasons.
A couple of ill-informed comments on here about the LOI on the thread but hey ho. The Showgrounds will be an all seater 6000+ stadium by September 2028 and hopefully by then we will shooting for a Euro place under Darren.

????

Plus I really hope we don’t send them there on loan, permanently no problem.

Never rated him as a coach. When I watched the u21s they were poor and players looked bemused when speaking to Purse. When he was laughing in dugout when we were going down was a disgrace.

Going forward I think club will be better off.

Exactly and many in the Club are glad he’s gone.

A lot of U21’s never had a good word to say about him.

Great as a player here but unfortunately I’ll always remember him laughing with another coach on the bench when the team were taking a beating.
